The Braves announcers were in a meditative / thoughtful / look-to-the-future mood. Considering the Nats in 2016, Glavine observed:
- Nats might not be as strong on paper, but will be close. Losing Zimmermann will hurt, even though Roark is no slouch
- Need only a few tweaks, but need better luck with injuries. If Zimmerman and Werth are healthy, will have a strong lineup
- With the injuries this year, Rizzo got a chance to evaluate the young players and the bench. That will guide him in making improvements. (Impressed by Robinson; impressed by Taylor's fielding but not his hitting)
- Puzzled over Matt Williams. Won Manager of the Year and didn't suddenly get stupid. Had read Svrgula's latest article, which made a big impression. Camera showed Werth standing next to Williams; mentioned the takeaway line, without quoting it. (We know: "When do you think you lost the clubhouse?")
- Said the Nats had to get rid of the "bad apples" in the clubhouse. Immediately. "Our Braves teams won the division so often because we never had the number of injuries the Nats had this season and because if a player was not on the same page with Bobby Cox and the Braves way, they were gone quickly. Some were talented players...just not on our page for whatever reason..." Pretty clear.
