Even if Drew could play 1B, I think Dusty likes having a solid bench bat to pinch hit in a crucial situation. I have no confidence in Clint this year. I like Drew then Heisey off the bench. I'd like to see the numbers for Heisey when he starts and when he comes off the bench. I swear it seems like he hits better off the bench. I don't mind Goodwin at CF either. Goodwin is solid enough on defense and seemingly very good on offense. I hope he gets more at bats in this last week of play.

He will. That catch to start the game, the triple, and the bases loaded walk with 2 outs? You can count on him playing every day so Dusty can be sure what he has.

I'd rather save Drew to be a secret weapon. If Espinosa hits 7th and strikes out to end an inning, you can double switch him out and have catcher, Drew, Turner the next inning.

Frankly, with the amount of reliever shenanigans that will be happening, all these guys we're debating (Goodwin, Drew, Revere) are just ripe for the double switches. Keep that pitcher spot as far away as possible, then run your bullpen like it's the ALDS.

Most stolen bases by a Washington player since George Case stole 61 in 1943. Case, by the way, was the fastest player in baseball and might have been as fast as Jesse Owens.

Didn't Soriano get 40?

Turner on his approach: “For me, it’s really situational. It depends on different things. Am I leading off the inning? Are there are runners in scoring position? Does the pitcher on the mound have good command or bad command? Am I going good or going bad? There are a lot of questions I ask myself. Based on the answers to those questions, I’ll have an approach. You have to play it by ear.
Seems obvious when Turner says it, but I don't think I've heard it said or phrased that way by another player.

Mature approach from the young buck. Meanwhile, we've got the windmill and a guy who would win a staredown battle starting

What a joy it was to watch him play last night.    Even with the loss, it was worth the price of admission.

Turner looks like he's got a strong enough arm to start at short. The weak arm excuse no longer applies and espy should be benched.

I get the feelin' Dusty may have Danny on a short least for the playoffs.

Or have Danny play less against right hand pitchers

I agree with all of you, but it's hard to get excited for the CF options. Goodwin better make the team.

yabut do you see him moving Turner out of center?  Maybe Revere and Espinosa time share, and Turner flips between SS and CF.  Other than that, I don't see it happening.

Alfonzo: I admit that I keep forgetting he played in Washington, even though I saw him at RFK, standing with his arms folded in LF as a pitch was thrown.

I think all of this will happen, but only mid-game. Espinosa will start. Dusty is going to want Solis to go a couple if Gio doesn't last that long. Espinosa in the 7 spot is pretty ripe for a double switch. If he strikes out before a pitching change is due, you will see a CF go in the 9 hole as a second leadoff man. Similarly, you might see Zimmerman come out for a pinch runner (the CF) moving Turner in and Murphy over.

Except then you get Ben Revere, who hits about as poorly and is a worse defender in CF.

The Washington Post published a special 12-page Nationals section today, Wed March 29, 2017. Included is a small poster of Trea Turner. A color Bryce Harper picture takes up the entire front page of the section, with the title, "Time to Get Serious."

Not this picture but the poster is similar
