Let's see Max get bounced between starter and reliever a season long and then we can compare

Been a starter for a month now. And he didn't seem to have a problem bouncing between rotation and bullpen in 2013.

Max has been a starter all year and didn't have problems last year, and look at the hot mess he has become...

Now, now. Calm down everyone. The team needs both Max and Tanner to be good next year.

Nah...Slate is used to Government waste so he thinks Max was a good deal.  Max will have a worse record than Roark did last year...at 60X the price.

Yes. Damn that sub 3 ERA, sub 3 FIP, and 5+ WAR season.

Too bad Roark can't repeat what he did last year.

Don't think Max was a good deal. But in a sport with no cap on salary, who the freak cares about deals?

Look on the bright side, like many previous Nats, he now has a built in excuse for the rest of his career.

You have to, there's only so much money an owner will spend and when a huge chunk of your payroll becomes allocated to older, less productive players you can go out and get the better young ones :(

Yes. Damn that sub 3 ERA, sub 3 FIP, and 5+ WAR season.

3 good outings saved his season stats.  Roark had a better ERA and a 5.1 WAR in 2014...and gave up 16 homers all year vs. 24 so far for Max...at 1/60th the price.

3 good outings .... plus the entire first half, right?

3.47 FIP last year with a .270 BABIP and 3.4 WAR. ERA of 4.73 this year. 2014 was a fluke. He can't repeat the performance. In fact, he has regressed since he came to the big leagues in 2013. 1.51 ERA with a .243 BABIP in 2013. Up to a 2.85 ERA and .270 BABIP last year. This year, he's over 4 with a league normal BABIP of .306.

You don't pay those max money contracts for one year. You pay it for years of being consistently great.

This is totally false.

His no-hitter, one hitter and another one other shutout sandwiched in between drove his ERA down to where is is.  He's a career 3.5 ERA pitcher with few complete games other than those.

It all counts. If you throw those out you have to throw out his three worst starts.
