Checkin' the schedules, I see the Pirates are at home at the same time the Nats are in Cleveland.   I can visit my sister's family in Western PA and hit both ballparks in two days.   It's an easy drive between the two cities/fields.     If ya go to Cleveland and you like music, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a must.

If it were on time, they would have just told you to bend over.

California law prohibits beer vendors in the stands,

Wow! How do we go about getting that law in DC!

No thanks! Petition the team for a beer-free section if you want (the pnats have one) but don't wreck things for the rest of us!

Given the $$$ Nats management makes on beer, the Nats will never request it

When it's most inconvenient for us....probably Valentine's Day - perhaps the 1st of April.

God I hate Mets fans. They are a notch above Phillies in general obnoxiousness, and a step above Atlanta in dedication. They're fairweather douchebag fans. When the Mets freak up this rotation, and they well--they're the Mets, and they are terrible again in 2 years, they'll all disappear.

...still remembering the bad old days at RFK when the Mets used to bring in the biggest travelling support...not fun.

Admittedly it's not much, but two Saturday home fixtures now have start times:

28th May vs Cardinals - 19.15
2nd July vs Reds - 19.15

When I saw those (late last week) I thought there would have to be some sort of national telecast tie-in there.

Based on last year's schedule, a good rule of thumb is:

Sunday games at 1:35 pm (unless picked up on national TV)
Weekday games at 7:05 pm (exceptions are the last game of a series or before a road trip--either the visiting team or the Nats are leaving town that night, in which case they usually schedule the games earlier, either 4:05 or 1:05 pm)
Saturdays are more of a mixed bag, games early in the season (April) are scheduled at 1:05 pm, mid season (May-July) at 4:05 pm, August to early September at 7:05 pm, and late September/October at 4:05 pm
July 3rd is at 6:05 pm (fireworks) and July 4th is at 11:05 am

I'm predicting that the Saturday 6/11 game will be at 12:05 and the next day's game (6/12) will be at 4:05.  June is when the teams usually holds their Dream Foundation Gala on a Saturday night and these are the times from last year's Cubs games that coincided with that weekend.

In related news...

The Twins exhibition game on Friday 4/1 has been announced as a 6:05 start and the next day's game will be a 12:05 first pitch.

July 3 is a Sunday this year. Most Sunday games are 1:35 starts and ESPN has the rights to the 8:00 timeslot so no local networks can broadcast during that window due to blackout restrictions. The best the Nats could do would be a 5:05 start. If they have fireworks, it might not even be dark at the conclusion of the game.

I think that this 6pm/11am pattern for July 3/4 only works when it's the same team.  July 4 is a Monday, and starts a new series, with the Brewers, who certainly will have a Sunday game, and can't reasonably be expected to travel here late Sunday for an 11AM game Monday.

I don't think the fireworks will be on Sunday the 3rd.  The Reds are in town that day and have a day game in Chicago on the 4th.  It will more than likely be a 1:35 first pitch. It will probably be on Saturday the 2nd where they have fireworks.  That game is one of the few that have a start time assigned to it.  7:15 so it must be a Fox broadcast.

FYI: Also, the Brewers are coming in from a day game in St. Louis and will have an early morning on the 4th of July.

Agreed. Boston always does an 11:05 Monday start on Patriot's Day in April, but it's a wrap-around series with the visiting team staying in town an extra day.

Right and the 11 AM July 4 start for the Nats is beginning to take on a tradition of its own. I wonder why they didn't insist on a wraparound.

I really like the early start on the Fourth of July - the baseball gets into the books with plenty of time to get out of town before the crowds pile in for the fireworks.
