surprised at how poor castillo's numbers are so far. his minors performance isn't terrible or anything, but so much hype around him and his numbers don't pop out at you.

Yeah cause he didn't acquire very much, a now-twice-traded ancient veteran benched in favor of a player the Mets used to have, a utility man having a good year, and a free agent reliever who can't close having a career worst year with all the right metrics trending in the wrong direction.

As disappointed as I am Clipp ain't coming home, if weren't gonna have a package deal with Zobrist or Reddick he wasn't worth enough to trade straight up for. A lot of other 8th inning guys and closers having better years without the scary metric implications.

This pitcher the Mets gave up doesn't seem to be such great shakes. We could have beaten that without giving up Cole or Lopez.

He's only 20, and crazy tall, so maybe a great coach turns him into a good starter or maybe he bounces around the bullpens of 2-3 teams trying to stick and never quite making it work. Either way, he probably only has to provide Oakland about 0.3 WAR to be worth giving up Clippard for.

Clippard probably could have saved the game cited, which would put them one game back, not 2 right now.

Choosing WAR today over future WAR can be smart. And the Mets have lots of young pitchers.

Funny, I just read that before posting too :lol: really liked the article too. It is true that the Mets have tons of young pitchers. They were dealing from a big strength

.3 WAR from a reliever past the mid point is worth more than a .3 war career spread over years

If it's the year you finally get back into the playoffs, and if your rotation is stacked with young studs who would block the other guy anyway, I'm not so sure.
