For years up until last year's seth Jones trade,  nhl had hardly any trades of  consequence.  I think the salary cap was making it hard

I quit watching hockey a long time ago, but watching the great Canadian teams of the 80s (the Flames, Oilers, and Canadiens) just sell off all their pieces for nothing was too much for me.

The salary cap is a crappy way to keep the unions down.

It just means if you make a mistake contract you are doubly screwed. You can't compete because you can't sign anyone else, and you can't trade the guy because nobody else has the room.

My comment was directed at the fact that a "salary cap" is a way for the players (with or without a union) to be controlled and the owners to make money regardless.    The system should be set up so the players can make what they can get and if an owner makes bad contracts and the team does badly or folds  ...  that's business.    So be it, just like any other business.   They double screw themselves in that case.    Might lead them to not make mistake contracts.        This is not the free market the owners talk about all the time.    They screw the players and then have the public build a stadium/gym/hockey rink for them.    Who's really gettin' screwed?     What's worse is the union and public officials vote to get screwed.    :)

It's one of the reasons I've attended one NBA game in the last 25 years.    That was a free ticket.    If it weren't for the Steelers, football would be close to that.

Report: Blackhawks Get A Giant Bargain With Brian Campbell

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun is reporting that Campbell will sign a one-year/$2 million contract with the Blackhawks.

...and the Capitals just inked Tom Wilson to a 2 year deal worth $2MM per.   :smh:

I'm puzzled at not signing Latta for presumably a similar or lesser amount.

[edit: far lesser - a QO would have been $630k]

They essentially gave Wilson Latta's money as a raise.  I honestly didn't see keeping Latta...he didn't contribute anything last year and was scratched for all but one game after we inserted Richards into the lineup.

From what little I've heard from Trotz, the odds are we'll have a rookie (Hershey grad) left winger starting on the 3rd or 4th line this year.  The Ice Cheetah is all but gone.

We saw Chimera unloading his gear from his car right after he arrived...I guess he drove here straight from Columbus.  That may have been GMGM's best trade (other than his deadline scoop of Fedorov and Huet [never liked Cooke]).

Football is the worst of all. Guy gets injured, you can fire him and not pay him. Terrible.

Baseball has really had the best behind the scenes arrangement of all the major sports since 1995. Lots of room for improvement but it could be much worse.

Huge overpay.  Hope they leave him unprotected next year and that Las Vegas takes him...

...afterall...GMGM...

...though I would rather lose Orpik...

I like MoJo. Can't trade him. You don't want to lose your mojo. There was a whole Austin Powers movie about that.

Bought tickets to the November 26th game in Toronto tonight...anyone here been to a game at the Air Canada Center?

Waiting for the March game in Tampa to come available...but we've got plenty of time for that.  The Amalie Arena is a terrific hockey venue.
