But, um, that's a good idea.

No it's not. Why would anyone want less baseball???

Seriously... more double headers if you're worried about too many dates.

Agreed...shorten the regular season and expand the playoffs...

I'd rather contract the playoffs and keep the regular season relevant.

The regular season becomes more relevant with less games.

I would want less baseball.  I think 120 is a reasonable amount of games to play and then make the playoffs longer.

How so?  Everyone here would agree the playoffs in the NHL and NBA are pretty relevant and they allow more than half the league to play in their respective tournaments.  And while I agree the first playoff round in both of those leagues is pretty watered down, from the second round on it's balls to the wall - and I hate the NBA so giving them credit pains me.

I think the NBA regular season is the most irrelevant in professional sports

That's because their season has about 20-25 more games in it than it should.

Same with the NHL.

I'd go with the NHL.

Baseball?   Make it 154 games and one team from the NL and one from the AL goes to the World Series.    Series is over by the middle of October (before the first snow).     Uh, never mind.    That was 1957.

The winners share of the 2014 playoff was $389K for a month of work. Jordan Zimmermann will earn $615K a week this season. I don't see a big change in the playoff format in the near future.

That's not true - unless the number of games changed drastically, like down to 40 games or less.

The regular season becomes more relevant with less games.

I would want less baseball.  I think 120 is a reasonable amount of games to play and then make the playoffs longer.

I'm fine with 154 and I'm fine with another round.

Hypothetically, you add 1 team per league, have 4 divisions of 4, lose the Wild Card, do 3 games in round one, 5 in round 2, 7 in the LCS, 7 in the WS.

You have one too many series...unless you mean have 8 teams per League in the playoffs - 1st and 2nd places.  I like the concept, but do 7 games in all series...

How about the talk about eliminating the shift?  I don't agree with that at all. I hope Manfred doesn't make us long to have Bud back.

It doesn't have to happen. But it will eventually. I hate uneven divisions. 3x5 works, but it's clumsy and there is something to the sour grapes about the WC teams staying fresh. 4x4 works too.

By shift, do you mean putting 3 infielders on the right side for left handed batters ?

You are right. I had another proposal going but I thought better of it and screwed up the edit.

7, 7, 7. So if you do the 154 game season and 3 7s, it's 175.

Currently the max is 162 + 1 + 5 + 7, which is also 175.
