I checked with my daughter who's a big fan of the show and yes the audience apparently votes to keep two performers from each team and then the celebrity in charge keeps another, or something - anyway if it is like Idol the first few weeks are devoted to auditions and then whittling it down to a small number of finalists so you could be watching for awhile DPM 
Turns out she's auditioning for NEXT season, the one that will start after the first of the year. I can resume normal life again.
