Oh - then try poached eggs with some crab meat

I haven't been to Hawaii since I was a kid, but I could crush one of those loco mocos

What is it about fried eggs on burgers?  So good.

So my pulled pork recipe calls for a sauce consisting of whiskey, brown sugar, honey, and apple vinegar

What do you think would happen if I substituted rum? And what kind of rum should I go with?

If ya use honey, brown sugar, etc. in the regular recipe, may I suggest a dark rum.    Myers's isn't a bad dark rum.    As with most alcohol, it's an individual taste thing and how much ya wanna spend.    If I'm sittin' here watching sports, I like Captain Morgan's Black  ...  neat.    I'm not sure I'd add it to any recipes though.     May not make it from the dining table.    :)

We found a recipe for meatball stroganoff in a magazine and it only took 35 minutes to make (using frozen meatballs). Good wintertime dinner. Boiling the water for the pasta almost took longer than making the stroganoff.

a friend mentioned they bought a pressure cooker that they saw in an infomercial, it lets them throw in a bunch of ingredients, including frozen meat, and get a pretty good meal out of it in under 30 minutes.  Has anyone seen/tried it or have any clue what they were talking about?

Could it be the InstaPot (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLYWNYQ/)?  We have one and really like it for rice and potatoes but haven't tried any of that "throw it all in and hit go" stuff they show in the infomercial.  Pretty sure QVC had them on from time to time and they do the "one step" pot meal method.  Not sure I trust it but the InstaPot is pretty boss.

How so ?  The alcohol will cook out and evaporate, the left over compounds should add flavor and I'd imagine whiskey would leave a smoky flavor whereas rum would not.

Rum's pretty good for cooking - kind of a molasses effect. Better for desserts tho

It won't be the same flavor as whiskey, but rum will add a smooth sweet flavor that will complement the food just as whiskey would.

A sauce with brown sugar and honey doesn't really need more sweet. If you want smoke, liquid smoke works, but I doubt the whisky would leave enough to take over the other ingredients

I'm not sipping a $200 bottle by the fire and I'm not adding it to a drink I actually want to enjoy. So yes.

Ought to try Jack Daniels in a bong.
There is no amount of self loathing that could make me try that.

If you're looking for a new meat thermometer Thermapens (http://www.thermoworks.com/products/thermapen/) are going to be on sale (at least the green ones) the next couple of days.  Easily one of the best kitchen tools out there and a steal at less than $100.
