8th and 9th inning relievers from last year are gone.

So they are putting increased faith in Storen even though he keeps choking in the biggest spot and relying on who for the 8th? Barrett who also gagged down the stretch?

The $9m that they're not paying to Clippard....where does that go?

There had to be something better they could get for even 1 year of Clippard.

Escobar would seem to be a decent utility piece, a slightly worse and older version of Asdrubal Cabrera, which is okay. But to give up your best reliever for this player stings.

3 years of Escobar?

He's a 32 year old, clubhouse cancer.  Who wants three years of that?

I wonder if Danny still sees himself as a switch hitter

Worry not, the Tigers already signed him a couple months ago.

Tyler Clippard was awesome with the Nats, consistent and durable in a role few are. One of the best people to cover, too.

I wonder if Uggla still thinks he's making a comeback.

If he still sees himself as a baseball player at all, he has the kind of imagination I wish I never lost.

Really wanted to see him bust his ass in ST and beat Danny for the job. Maybe he still can if Yunel freaks around.

I bet we go Cardinals and bring up a guy like Cole to relieve as a way to break into the majors.

Good move.  Clip has been overworked, is way overpaid ( I agree that shouldn't be an issue, but if it frees up $4 mill for 2015 that gives Rizzo some flexibility to improve some other stuff), and despite his numbers never felt dominant like he was a few years back.  I feel like he's going to drop off at some point.

Yunel is a pretty good upgrade over Espy at 2nd, and a capable average player/hitter at SS should we move Desmond for something bigger.  Useful player on the cheap for 2-3 years to fill a need and allow for some flexibility.

I don't get it. Why not re-sign Asdrubal for the 1 year deal and keep Clippard or trade him for better prospects/players??

Rizzo freaked up not re-upping with Asdrubal and then had to panic and make this move in desperation.

They've been talking about Treinen that way for a while.

My issue isn't Clippard...it's Clippard, Soriano, and Detwiler.  You don't give up three bullpen pieces at once.  It's not wise.  Especially when your replacements are Bell, Treinen, and Cedeño, or whatever.

This move improves our LINEUP.  It is the LINEUP that needs work.....just like a said at this time LAST YEAR.  Screw pitching, we need better hitting, less Ks and better OBP.  This does that, even if only marginally so.

Escobar really isn't an upgrade over Espinosa with the way his career has been trending.
