It's not just about the super 2 deadline, it's about team control. We have Strasburg through next year because he came up June 8th, 2010, and lose Desmond because he was up on opening day 2010.
If both had come up April 20th, they both would have been under team control through next season (and as I said, wouldn't that be great with Desmond now?!?). So there's a huge disincentive towards bringing these kids up before mid-April.
