Top prospect lists for 2015 season
« Topic Start: December 16, 2014, 01:57:02 PM »
BA's Nats top 10 is out.

BB America's latest list of our top 10 prospects:

1. Giolito
2. Taylor
3. Lopez
4. Fedde
5. Souza
6. Cole
7. Difo
8. Ward
9. Goodwin
10. Pivetta

I'd say it's likely that Cole, Taylor, and Souza will all spend more time with the big league club than at Syracuse next year.

Surprised to see Cole so far down the list. I would think Turner pops in at 5, and Ross right after Cole at 7 on this list.

Id rank it Giolito, Taylor, Cole, Turner, Fedde, Lopez, Ross, Ward, Difo, Goodwin if it were me.

Cole moved down because he's a year older.

Turner might be #3.  He's #96 on http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2014/#list=prospects top 100 prospects.  Taylor is 65, nobody lower is in the top 100 except for Cole.  Ross was #10 on the Padres on the BB American 2014 list, they haven't released the 2015 list but this list (http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/oct/03/padres-top-20-prospects-2014-offseason-rankings/#&panel1-1) had him at #3

According to one of the many links I've clicked on (can't find it now), the two new acquisitions are now 2 and 3 and everyone else moves down.

Yeah but Cole has had success at higher levels and there is a little comfort with that. A guy like Lopez came out if nowhere. And while I'm as excited as anyone about his raw stuff, he's a long way away and has no real track record. I think Cole still ranks ahead.

Ross above turner- I don't think I've seen anyone else with that view

i guess it depends on how you assess value, the one knock on Turner is that he only has 60-something games of experience.

I've noticed all around the league that pitching almost always leads the prospect list.

What am I missing about AJ Cole? I thought he'd be ranked much higher.

How is Fedde ahead of Cole if he's not done a damn thing?

Obviously they think his ceiling is that much higher than Cole's.

the rankings rate potential.  My guess is that they think Cole, given his age, is pretty much developed as far as he will go whereas Fedde could be better.

Turning Souza into two top 10 prospects is still amazing.

Cole is going to be 23 years old next season. That still doesn't make sense.  Fedde will be 22 and not pitching.

Maybe they're weighing cole's year in the A's system more than we do around here

I think if you base it on potential, then the next "wave" should replace these guys:

Strasburg -> Giolito
Zimmermann -> Fedde
Gonzalez -> Ross
Fister -> Cole

Hell, if they all live up to their hype, that will be a damn good rotation.  I could actually see that being the rotation in 2017.

You must have me on ignore ;)

1. Lucas Giolito
2. Reynaldo Lopez
3. Joe Ross
4. A.J. Cole
5. Erick Fedde or Austin Voth

That's not a bad prospect rotation. Even if a few of them go bust, we should be okay in 2017.

Fedde is more like Fister.

Cole has a mid 90s fastball, a power curve, and a decent change.
