Lol, you think that Boras is gonna take a 25 million deal for Rendon? :lmao:

Ok, so what will it be then?

It seems players aren't getting signed via long term contracts beyond their 36 year age. Machado and Arenado. Harper gets 10 year same applies.

So can we assume Rendon gets max 6 years?

At what $$$ per year on 6 years?

Lets not pretend that Rendon is the player that Nolan is seen to be. Nolan has what... 5 or 6 GG. 4 SS. Finished top 3 in MVP voting last year.

Machado is a 4 time Allstar. 2 GG.

Rendon has 1 SS.

Sure, some team can overpay in Free Agency. But his value is $25-27 a year. Putting him at 6/150 compared to other players by comparison.

Honestly, I think Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards are about as important as All Star Game appearances. MVP votes are worthwhile for sure, but I feel like the trophies are handed out in a popularity contest fashion. Rendon lacks a camera presence to really grab attention and I think he likes flying under the radar. Doesn't make his batting and fielding stats any less legit. I would expect him to command upper 20's to low 30's if it's a six year deal.

Rendon is every bit as good as Arenado, if not better. Arenado gets more hype. If you don’t think Rendon is asking for very close to what Arenado got, you’re crazy.

Maybe aav, but there’s a big difference between what you want to pay someone age 38 vs age 35

I meant AAV. Sorry. But isn’t Arenado only 1 year younger than Rendon?

He’s 27 (April birthday) and signed an 8 year extension, so he’ll be 36 at the end of an 8 year deal. rendon is 28 (June Birthday), so he’ll bee 37/38 during the final year of an 8 year deal if he signs next off season

The Nats just shot themselves in the foot. Could have had him for the little big guy's money, but instead they offered the little big guy's height.

If Arenado got 8 at 32.5 average per year a fair deal for Rendon would be 5 or 6 years at 27-28 average per year. Get it done.

I don't disagree with you w/r/t performance, but I think Rendon's injury history comes into play when you're talking about a long-term deal. Arenado is coming off four straight years with 156+ games played. So is Machado. Rendon seems to be on the DL most years.

I would say durability is a fairly legitimate question compared with the other two guys. Not that he should get a huge discount, but if it was a little bit less, or the same AAV over a year less, that would be appropriate imo.

What aav do you think a guy will get for age 30-36 seasons?

The same Machado just got. Rendon has posted three 6+ WAR seasons. Arenado has never done that. Rendon may not get a 10 year deal, but hes not going to sign anywhere for 25 million AAV.

Hes not.  He just gets noticed by baseball writers. Mainly because he isnt playing on a team with three other stars/big time names.

Take Arenado out of Coors and hes not even the best third baseman in his division.

Legit: If Rendon would sign an for 25 mil AAV, that deal would have already been done. So either he wants more, or Rizzo is lowballing the crap out of him

I'm not sure why you think that when it was recently reported that he is seeking a contract comparable to Altuve. Altuve is cheaper the first 2 years.

But a Rendon extension (similar to Altuve) would be 6 year $150-160 total.

So to say he wouldn't sign for around $25 a year seems odd since it's around what he seeks.

No matter how you slice it Arenado has the better stats according to Baseball Reference:

Home runs last 4 years:
Arenado - 42,41,37,38
Rendon - 5,20,25,24 (21 5 years ago)

RBIs Lat 4 years
Arenado - 130,133,130,110
Rendon - 25,85,100,92 (83 5 years ago)

WAR the last 4 years:
Arenado - 5.8, 6.6, 7.2, 5.6

Rendon - 0.4, 3.9, 6.0, 4.2 (6.6 5 years ago)

Arenado also has a Gold Glove.

I bet the offensive stats would be rather similar if Arenado played 78 fewer games each year in Coors field...or if Ant'ny played 78 more games there each year himself...certainly on a 162 game average.

No doubt...Ant'ny has been bitten by more injuries.

I watched Arenado make 3 errors in one game against the Nats several years ago...wasn't terribly impressed.  Reminded me of the hype surrounding Royce...

Haha. Definitely not. I legit think he's a better player as I've watched them both quite a bit over the years. I also don't like Rendon's careless attitude. At least Bryce cared.

If only there were a stat that could compare players and correct for playing in different ballparks.

I think that Tony 2-bags will be reasonable when it comes to the team that drafted, developed, and played him....

Unlike hotdog fame-seeking needing the limelight Harper.

Rendon - 0.4, 3.9, 6.0, 4.2 (6.6 5 years ago)

Arenado also has a Gold Glove.

No, just No.

If you look at numbers that correct for ballpark, OPS+ and wRC+, Rendon has been better offensively

Rendon wRC+ : 2018 140, 2017 141
Arenado wRC+ : 2018 132, 2017 129

Rendon OPS+ : 2018 137, 2017 139
Arenado OPS+ : 2018 133, 2017 130

If you look at traditional stats that aren't home runs and by extension RBI's, Rendon is equal or better
Rendon BA: 2018 .301, 2017 .308
Arenado BA:2018 .297, 2017 .309

Rendon OBP: 2018 .374, 2017 .403
Arenado OBP: 2018 .374, 2017 .373

Rendon K%: 2018 13.7%, 2017, 13.6%
Arenado K%: 2018 18.1%. 2017 15.6%

I don't necessarily like defensive metrics, so I chose 3 different ones

UZR/150
Rendon: 2018 6.5 2017 12.9
Arenado: 2018 5.2 2017 5.9

DRS
Rendon -6, 7
Arenado 5, 20

Fangraphs Defensive Rating
Rendon 7.9, 14.3
Arenado 8.1, 9.0

Maybe on balance to Arenado, but it's much closer that the talking heads on TV would have you believe. And Gold Gloves are a joke and almost purely reputational. Once you win one, it's so much easier to win another.

Arenado plays in Coors. Maybe he would still be good if he played away from there. But now we will never know. But what we do know is that if you look at any stat that doesn't involve power, Rendon is a better hitter and their defense is similar.

Yeah...I'm not a stat head...just an eye test kinda guy.  They are similar in every regard to me.  I'll gladly take Ant'ny any day of the week...
