Good pitching beats good hitting

I don't get baseball. So what's the formula to win? Just build a mediocre enough team to squeak in the playoffs and pray that players who have been bad all year turn into hall of fame superstars for a few weeks?

Has anyone won 4 straight in an LCS since the '04 Sox?

You know what, SF? Every pro sports league has playoffs, and in the playoffs, what happened in the regular season does not matter, so unless you're advocating for the regular season wins leader to be the champion without a postseason, shut up and get your head out of your ass.

Agreed. Just makes the regular season completely pointless IMO. Best strategy is to punt all year like the Royals and go on a fluke run in October. Regular season success like you said means nothing. There's no point in trying to build a team that wins 100 regular season games. We need a team that can win 11 (or 12) playoff games.

You know what - I'm not even saying this tongue-in-cheek - I can see where SF is coming from here.  It's somewhat frustrating as Nats fans to see the team dominate the regular season and have these wild card teams totally blow them by.

That said, the Royals just dominated two of the best teams in baseball en route to winning arguably the better of the two Leagues.  Hard to really say that it's a fluke or that they're "mediocre" or anything.  They're a good team that put it together at the right moment.

In most major soccer leagues there are no playoffs - best record over the season wins.  Granted there are all sorts of elimination tournaments in addition to that, but the league championship is simply a matter of the best team over the entire season getting the trophy.

They were mediocre for 162 games, I'm mainly referring to their lineup.

16 games over .500 in the tougher of the two Leagues is "mediocre" now.  Got it.

Boo freaking hoo. The playoffs work fine so long as the best team's offense shows up and the manager doesn't make stupid pitching changes. No Nats fan has any right to nag about the playoffs after that turrible showing this year.

So we should build a team around failed prospects Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar, etc. Got it. Whatever the Nats are doing clearly isn't working. 3 wasted years in a row.
