I think that was well before Iverson.  I reference a Mr. Ewing.

if true I like our chances- OKC seems allergic to the luxury tax, especially when they should be adding pieces to put them over the top- I can't imagine that gives KD the warm fuzzies

It's a national game on ESPN--scheduled no doubt before the Paul George injury.  Should be another W.  At Toronto Friday night should be a good one.

The salary cap will go be going up and we may see another strike before then.  However, with so much money tied up in Wall and Gortat and then the need to extend Beal not sure they would have the money to match OKC.

This breaks down the money for anyone curious. Lots of unknowns: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fancy-stats/wp/2014/07/15/how-the-wizards-could-afford-kevin-durant-in-2016/
Good article but Klay Thompson just got 4 years for 70 million so there is now way they are extending Beal for 10-12 million per year. The salaries are skyrocketing in anticipation of the salary cap going up.

it's not about matching OKC, it's about the willingness to pay the luxury tax to get extra pieces- something OKC has refused to do

There will be easily enough. Bill Simmons thinks the cap will be at 88 million (!) and he is pretty good with the business side of the NBA.

As a Thunder fan, if they do not bring KD back, I hope that Westbrook and Chewbaka leave the following year too. You've got to keep a player of KD's caliber and seeming relative lack of ego when you're a small market team. At some point, you've got to be willing to shell put the required money to win.

they had harden, durant and westbrook and managed to not pay luxury tax and build around them. I think their chance has already past- listening to Zach Lowe- he thinks they most likely miss the playoffs this year- that puts them in the Carmello in Denver/Lebron in Cleveland position in 2015- if he hasn't signed an extension, good luck dealing with that circus

The team they have around is better than anything the Nuggets or Cavs gave their respective stars. KD has two supporting studs in Westbrook and Chewbaka as well as a series of solid role players. Cleveland did a crap job giving Lebron any help the first time around and Melo is too much of an ego-maniacal assfiend to ever stay in a non-East coast megalopolis. The situation differs in that Durant seems to be a more grounded dude like Duncan than those other guys. I honestly think he'll stay if they want him around, but they have to do something more than what they have. If they let Reggie Jackson leave without getting a young, sure thing two guard scorer in exchange, they'll have pulled the Harden thing twice and are totally untrustworthy when it comes to being dedicated to building a team, at which point, he should leave for Washington.

In addition to Paul George, pacers also missing George Hill, CJ Watson and David West. And also maybe Rodney Stuckey.   Should be a blow out.  Game is on CSN and ESPN.
