Ace John Smoltz  (1-0, 3.75 ERA) will make his third start of the season for Atlanta in the finale. He outdueled former teammate Tom Glavine  on Saturday, allowing two runs in six innings of a 5-3 win over New York.

The 39-year-old right-hander is 17-9 with a 2.69 ERA in 61 career appearances, including 34 starts, against the Nationals franchise. He went 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA in five starts against them last season.

Washington will counter with Jason Bergmann (0-1, 9.82), who is looking to rebound from a shaky season debut last Thursday. The right-hander needed 50 pitches to get out of the first inning and gave up four runs while walking six in 3 2-3 innings of a 4-3 loss to Arizona.

The outing was the 45th of Bergmann's career, but just his eighth start. He is 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA in eight career appearances against the Braves, including 0-1 with a 6.75 in two starts, both in Washington.

Which is why Murphy's Law will now officially proclaim the Nationals the winner.

I have Smoltz active in the Forum's Fantasy Head-to-Head league.

On the other hand, Smoltz lost his first game against the Nationals in 2006 7-3.  He gave up 7 hits, including 2 HRs, in 5 innings, striking out 3 and walking nobody.  He lost 5 out of his first 6, before winning 5 straight.

Bergmann... USE THE FORCE!

I will be perfectly happy if Smoltz pitches a no-hitter and a complete game, striking out 12 batters... only to LOSE 1-0 as the result of a few errors in the 10th inning....

To add on to that, the score in your game happens to be an astoundingly close 134.4 to 134.17, with n2p losing.

On the note of H2H Fantasy Baseball, I happen to be winning by 40 and ALL of my pitchers (except for Tom Gordon, closer) make starts before the week is over.  Boo-yah!

Come on Nats, Tonight is the Night when we get back on track.  If Bergmann can manage to give up 3 runs or less in 6 innings I think we will Win this game someway, somehow.

What's the over/under that he'll give up 3 in the first inning?

Well, if he gives up more than three, the Nationals will lose.  So I'll say under.

Yeah I just looked him up on the roster page...says he was born in the Bronx, went to High School in Miami and currently resides in the DR...I guess he's probably a mix of New York dad and Dominican mom.  Something like that.

Good AB by Ryan anyway...at least the top 1st lasted 5 minutes last this time. Yesterday I turned it on at 7:38 and it was already the commercial break .
