(A bonus FWIW: The Nationals believe internally that DiPuglia has done great work turning around their pipeline of Latin American talent. One name to remember you probably have not heard is Reynaldo Lopez, a 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic. In seven starts at Auburn, the Nats’ rookie ball affiliate, Lopez has a 0.75 ERA and has allowed 15 hits in 36 innings.)

Time to start really paying attention to him.

Not sure what kind of stuff he's featuring but he's caught fire this season at the age of 20.

He's a high 90's FB guy.  I do not have links handy, but I believe it was the Auburn Citizen that reported the Nats saying he hit 100 in extended Spring training.  They also reported he hit 99 three times in his last start for Auburn.  He's short for a pitcher and has had command issues, but it looks like he has improved.  It could be a lot of fun watching him and Giolito as teammates next season, hitting 100.

Since giving up an earned run in the second inning of a start on July 3, Lopez has gone the rest of that start plus seven more(three in the NYPL and four in SAL) giving up only one unearned run in 43 innings.  He has 37 Ks to 12 BB in that span.  It is 21-4 in the four Hagerstown starts.

In the pics I have seen, he looks like he could add some bulk, which is scary considering he already has high 90s-100 MPH heat.

He'll be 21 to start next season.  I'm very excited to see what he and Giolito can do as teammates in Potomac and beyond.

Interesting. Seems like the National buzz about him is non-existent at this point. Flying under the radar. Seems like he would be in the mix for Top 10 prospects in the Nats system after the season.

I like any guy who can command a mid 90's fastball. Really intriguing.

Lopez is a high risk prospect due to just reaching the Low-A level and the CB and CH still need more refinement until he is able to handle higher levels. The FB is a truly great pitch and will soar him through the minors if he can improve the secondary offerings even just mildly. This is one of the best arms I have seen all year.

Sign me up as well. I love these prospects that come outta nowhere. Great underrated signing by Rizzo and his international team.

My guess would be not a sniff at a top 100 list but the hot pick for the back of our top ten and "one to watch" status.

If he is not in the top 100 by the time he reaches Potomac, look for him in FanGraphs' weekly "Fringe Five" lists.

oh boy. He's pitching in playoffs tonight. Scouts finally taking notice. This one from BA:

JJ Cooper @jjcoop36  ·  37m
scout recently said Nationals RHP Reynaldo Lopez may have best arm he's seen this year. Seeing why. 96-98 in 1st. Filthy cb

Lopez was 97-99 in 2nd. Strikes out side. Swinging chg for first K. Freezes batter on 2nd K with chg. Scary cb for third K. #nationals

Reynaldo Lopez has a rock and fire delivery. Finishes with a little recoil.
