Yea I don't think it shows stupidity as much as a**-kissing and just being a general jerk.

Scored some cheap points with his boss and placated the fanbase with that statement. Not sure whether or not he actually believes Angelos/Orioles were wronged, but he's smart enough to brown-nose, and a jerk enough to make it a pointed statement.

Showalter on D.C. “You realize how big this area was for the Orioles before our owner was kind enough to let them have a team here.”

Why are Orioles fans so salty about the Nats?

The Showalter quote is a non-story.  He was making a joke, and actually I thought it was pretty funny.  The guy is very bright, and he has a well-developed sense of humor.

If this were true then Angelos is the dumbest man on the face of the earth.  How the hell do you "let" a team come in and take the best part of your market?  If Angelos had a case he could have won he would have kept the Nat out.  He compromised because he had no other choice, either that or he truly is a moron.

I was wondering if Showalter might be having some fun and stirring the pot a little bit.  It's a little surprising more of this hasn't happened over the years.  That said, there are orioles fans who believe Angelos "let" DC have a team and these are the ones who are "salty" about the Nats.  I've had that debate many times unfortunately.  The only leverage Angelos ever had relative to keeping baseball out of DC was the threat of what would have been an unsuccessful lawsuit.

Showalter's quote is a non-story, but the subject behind it always sparks discussion.

I just had that discussion when I found myself sitting next to an Oriole fan a few games ago - he believed exactly that.   :bang:  I hit him with a few facts about Angelos' so-called "rights" and also made sure to mention that the Senators (who actually did have territorial rights), waived them in 1954 to let the Browns move to Baltimore.  He didn't like being hit with facts at all, and didn't speak to me much for the rest of the game.

No great loss.

Espinosa over/under 2.5 Ks tonight?

He's only had 1 AB in all of July so far.

This is NOT a joking matter. Some of us are pretty effing pissed that Angeles kept us from having a team all those years.

It is a matter that I take very seriously, as seriously as you or anyone else.   That doesn't mean you can't crack a joke.  A good joke is a good thing anytime.

Well at least Matt's starting Danny against a RHP so he is at least a credible offensive threat.

Oh, wait....

ESPN has Roarke starting. http://espn.go.com/mlb/probables. Is that an error?
