His tongue is planted firmly in cheek.

Frankly, this team needs more bunting like "Don't fear the reaper" needs more cowbell.  You can't get enough.

Well he's a starter. And he doesn't bunt well.

I remember puttin' a nail in about 2 inches above the crack.

Nail.

Everybody know a screw works better.  Unless you were from the other side of the tracks, cause nails were cheaper.

Jordan Zimmermann

Pitchers                  IP    H   R   ER   BB   SO   HR  Pitches-Strikes
Zim-with-2-N's      8.0   2    0      0      0     11      0           100-72

ZNN can tie Strasburg's franchise single game strikeout record of 14, if he strikes out the side in the 9th.  He had zero K's in the 7th inning.

Bucky Harris says "No-hitters are over-rated. Just ask Bobby Burke".

August 8, 1931.

Odd that Washington only had two no-hitters and that Walter Johnson's was pitched in Fenway, on July 1, 1920. I just looked up the game and Johnson faced 28 batters, struck out ten, and did not walk anyone. The Bosox only base-runner came when Bucky Harris committed an error.

Why odd? Because Griffith Stadium had some of the longest dimensions ever in MLB. For many seasons, Griffith Stadium saw the fewest home runs. When Fred Schulte was traded from the Browns to the Nats to play CF, he said "I always did like playing CF in Washington. Plenty of room to field". (quoted in  Gary Sarnoff's "The Wrecking Crew of '33", p 10.

Yes, the Expos / Nats franchise record, but not the Washington record. Tom Cheney still holds the all-time record for strikeouts in a single game, although that game went to 15 pr 16 innings.

I don't know why they get rid of cracked bats.  We'd put some duct tape on them, they worked fine.  You could even get a bit of a hinged "snap" action on them once the tape began to fatigue a bit.

I remember a special glue "guaranteed" to fix a crack. It came with a kind of mesh sleeve that went over the crack...assuming the crack was in the bat-handle. In the olden dayes we never had a barrel split. Bats were heavier and the best were made from ash.  I don't know what kind of wood they use now
