I'm not sure we have a surplus next year, given Ross and Strasburg's injury proclivities.

Yup.

Can we get Sandy back? :stir:
Sandy's a great case of a guy you can't "sell high" on because no one actually believes he can sustain anything close to what he's doing.  Milk this run for as long as you can, then give the keys to Swihart.

We're trading Harper for Betts and Swihart :crash:

!!!

Nats have brought Fedde along gently and smartly. Ask Terry Collins: can a team ever have too many good starting pitchers?

Ah...have faith!! Maybe Giolito needs a full year at AAA.

Nice article on Fedde's start from milb.com: http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160831&content_id=198863262&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

Sounds like his slider is back to being lethal.

Also mentions he has one more start this year, which will put him just under 130 IPs for the season.

Yeah, season ends in 5 or 6 games. Harrisburg is in the playoff hunt, but it sounds like he'll be shut down anyways. This is an interesting "case study" for college arms drafted with TJS soon there after.

i was very impressed at how many sliders he threw for strikes and how the mets couldn't pick it up.

Throwing offspeed for strikes and called strikes are two skills that I think are lagging in scouting right now. Tanner Roark being a huge example.

between Voth and Fedde, the loss of Giolito and Lopez may not hurt us all that much.

5 relief appearances so far since the transition to the pen.  3 ER in 7 IP, 11:2 K:BB, no HRs, 7 hits.

Voth?  He's 1-5, 4.89 with 55 hits allowed in 46 innings and a 33/23 K/BB in AAA.  That's not going to help too much.  The only reason there's a discussion here is because Giolito is, last start aside, stinking it up.

Needs to work on pitching to the corners. That's a lot of hits for a reliever.
