Should have traded him for Trout when we had the chance

Great. He's been dealing lately, so I was worried it was an arm injury again. He'll be back soon enough!

18H, 2HR. Keeping the PO down too. Good stuff. May get a bump before the season ends, but I doubt it.

I'd love to see him hit Harrisburg this year but he's probably getting close to being shut down. He's basically already thrown the same amount of innings as he did in 2015 (64). A 20-30% increase over 64 innings means he's probably only going to start another four or five games.

That may be what they end up doing, but the one thing he needs is innings.  He's already more than 2 years off of his TJ, and he's now 23 and still in A.  Assuming he goes to around 80 innings this year, that would only get him around 105 next year.  He'd then be facing an age-25 season in which he'd be limited to around 140 innings and probably not having pitched above AA.  At some point, the gloves have to come off a bit.  Maybe not this year, but eventually.

That was just due to the time he came back. He'll get to 120 IP, at least, as he's two years out. You're right on the IP limit though. Doubt it would be 140.

Good to hear. Getting to 120 (or even 100) would be huge for his development.

One thing to also keep in mind wit Fedde is, he pitched quality inning numbers in college as well. He pushed 100ip twice, and also pitched in the Cape Cod League. He's essentially hit 125ip in one seasom before. I believe the talk of % hikes in innings is to a previous career high, not just the year prior. I wouldn't expect him to hit 150 or 160ip, but I'd expect him to definitely hit 120 and probably surpass, barring injury.

And btw, I don't think I saw it mentioned here: Fedde is ranked #61 in BA's mid season prospect ranking.

Gio 4, Turner 5, Robles 13, and Lopez 48, fwiw.

Well, not totally sure that's the Nats approach (Fedde is the first fresh-from-college arm recovering from TJS, IIRC). The typical approach has been 20% - 25% increase from the year before, but I look at last year as a half year for Fedde. Say the TJS happened sooner and he was healthy going into ST -- I bet he would've thrown 100 - 120 innings last year (Giolito threw 100 IP in his first full year back from TJS). Given the time between the last time Fedde did actually throw that many innings, I can't see him really throwing north of 120 innings this season, but it's possible. Next season: probably 140-160 at 24 y.o.

You are correct I believe that Fedde is a unique case for us. But, I think the age and the previous experience bodes well for him going to the top end of an innings limit. The injury and time off may have in effect allowed him to finish the year without a limit. He's got what, 7 weeks of season left? Without looking at the schedule, I'd say he's got 8-10 starts left. To get to 120, he'd need to go 6ip a game in 10 starts. So maybe he won't get to 120.

Another very good outing at Potomac for Fedde.

6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K.

Over his last 33 IPs he's only given up 3 earned runs (0.82 ERA) and a combined 29 hits and walks (0.88 WHIP) while striking out 31.

Probably time for him to be challenged in Harrisburg.

Big question: is Fedde throwing all his pitches and is he throwing hard? Best I remember, he was just working on his pitches early in he season.
