Any update on Fedde the past 6 weeks? June 3 will have been a year since surgery. I would expect him to start pitching in the GCL or Auburn when they open, but just curious if there has been an update on the plan.

Looks like he's pretty much ready to start his season.

If we can get Chapman for Fedde and a position player prospect not named Trea, I'm stoked.

Well, I hope they were only scouting Fedde and not Robles, we need some offense in the near future and Robles could be as close as our potential best future bat in the minor other than Turner and Stevenson. Also sad that we may have to give 2-4 prospects for him while we could have kept Clippard for less money and without giving up any players. Bad planning / bad evaluation of its own staff coming into the season.

Yeah, but we got a player that's been invaluable this year.

Yup, Clippard for Escobar was a great trade (especially since Clippard is having his worst year since 2009).

Yes is was...even if Rizzo's motivation was simply a salary dump, he got lucky.

Huh?

Escobar 2015: $5 million
Clippard 2015: $8.3 million

I see where you're coming from (I guess) but then

Escobar 2016: $7 million
Clippard 2016: $0

Escobar 2017: $7 million club option ($1 million buyout)
Clippard 2017: $0

So from where I'm sitting, Rizzo shed $3.3 million in 2015, but took on $7 million in 2016 and at least $1 million in 2017. That's no salary dump, the NPV of Yunel's contract obligations are higher than Clippard's.

except you're talking about $8.3 million for a reliever vs $7 million for a starting position player.

What's your point? It's not a "salary dump" when you take on MORE money. It's a salary dump when Arizona packages Touki Toussaint with Bronson Arroyo for nothing to "dump" Arroyo's salary. If we had traded Clippard for a low-A prospect flyer, that would be a salary dump.

Trading a guy who is more expensive and worse than the guy you get back is not a "salary dump". It's yet another good trade by our excellent GM.
