Definitely not disregarding Hoffman's TJS. I like Hoffman's stuff better. I like his frame better, I think he projects to bulk up better then Fedde. My knock on Hoffman was his TJS. On a Fedde it was his frame AND his TJS.

I can understand liking Hoffman's stuff better.

I dont understand the frame argument. Mlb.com has Hoffman  at 185, Fedde at 180. Ive seen Hoffman as low as 180. Both look skinny. We dont know exactly what their weight is but theyre clearly very close. I dont think a difference of 5-10 pounds can give one player the edge in terms of frame and projectability. Maybe if one was 18 and the other 21. Or one is 6', the other 6'4. But when you're talking 2 6'4 180-190lb college juniors, I just dont see how you give one the edge over the other.

Just day you like Hoffman more, and leave it at that. Nothing wrong with that. I just think you're reaching when you praise Hoffman's frame and knock Fedde's.

I don't praise his frame it just looks bigger/better despite the numbers. Yes I'll admit fully I liked Hoffman more. Not trying to hide it lol

Gargh why can't we just draft a position player and not have him pan out like Chris Marrero :(

Zimmerman, Rendon, Harper.

Zimmerman, Rendon, Harper.
All three were in the top 6. Rendo. Would have been number one if not for injuries.

Not really sure why that doesnt count. We have drafted position players that current start for the big league club. There are plenty of top 5 picks that bust. We've had guys make an impact. That shouldn't be ignored.

Zimmerman, Desmond, Harper, and Rendon are regulars that were drafted by us. Thats pretty darn good. I honestly dont know the average for the rest of the clubs but four position players starting (Espinosa actually makes it 5, but he has no business starting) that were drafted by the club they start for seems pretty solid to me.

We definitely need some bats. Theres still a lot of talented kids out there. The draft is still early. I overall side with BPA though because you can never have too many arms. You can move some of the arms for bats later on more than you can trade bats for an arm.

Bukauskas would be great if you can get him away from his UNC commitment.  Which will be very tough.

Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55 | Overall: 45
Suarez was a well-regarded prospect coming out of high school in 2011 and was selected in the ninth round by the Blue Jays. He opted to go to Miami instead of signing. Labrum surgery forced him to miss his freshman season, but he has bounced back well and is once again piquing scouts' interest this year.

Suarez throws his fastball in the low 90s, topping out at 95 mph. His changeup, slider and curveball all have the potential to be at least average offerings. He throws all of his pitches for strikes and has a good feel for his craft.

While his injury history and slight frame might give some teams pause, Suarez profiles as a Major League starter.

Tons of young HS talent available tonight and the Nats for some reason are not interested. They have been pretty terrible at developing HS players so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

This pick is due to the salary limit on draft picks probably. Get a guy that has jumped recently that is singable.  Allows team to "pay over slot" later on

On players with an injury history.

He is oddly against HS players though. Speaks volumes about his thoughts on our poor track record of developing HS players.

That likely due to having 5 drafted guys already in the lineup.

2 of the exceptions and neither have made the Majors yet. There are probably 20+ failed HS draft picks over the years from this organization. No Nationals HS draftee has ever made the Nationals. I believe that's still accurate.

Souza and Chris Marerro were both drafted out of HS.
