Anyone have an idea of who the Nats will be targeting this round?

Here's mlb.com's best available: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2014/drafttracker.jsp#topavailable

Nats take Jackson Reetz - HS catcher out of Nebraska who has signed with Nebraska.

DPMOmaha and I are conflicted!

I wouldn't chalk it up just yet...but the way I look at it, I win either way. Kid's a stud and about 20 minutes south of me.

Jackson Reetz. Hs C. I really like the pick. After LeMond, this was the guy I was hoping for. Big upside and should stick as a catcher.

Love the Reetz pick. Would have been thrilled with him at 57. Great value here.

ESPN's analysis of our picks so far:

Round 1:
Quote
18. Washington Nationals: Erick Fedde | RHP, UNLV

Like Hoffman, Fedde would have been a candidate for the top seven or eight picks if not for Tommy John surgery, and it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise to anyone that the Nationals were the team to take the risk on the right-hander, after they took a similar "risk" on Lucas Giolito in 2012. Also like Hoffman, it's impossible to know what Fedde's timetable is until we see how he responds, but as a right-hander with a plus fastball and slider, he has a chance to be a top-of-the-rotation starter, and Washington can afford to be patient with him.

Round 2:
Quote
Andrew Suarez, LHP, Miami (Florida) -- After taking a risk in the first round on Erick Fedde, the Washington Nationals went the safe route with Suarez. He could be a fast-track arm in the system. His command is already above average with three average to above-average secondary offerings, and while he’s unlikely to be more than a backend starter, he could help the Nationals rotation as soon as early 2016.

When's the last time we took a HS bat this high in the draft? Hood in '08?

It's Jakson, no c.

Auto correct is a nag. I caught the no C, because my newborn(8 days old) is named Jackson. But it's corrected for you on the iPad.

Ward was a 3rd rounder last year.

Google this video: A Day in the life of Jakson Reetz. This kid is a winner. Also apparently trying to switch hit.

Hit .487. Also throws low 90s on the mound RT @Nationals: With their 3rd rd pick, #Nats select Jakson Reetz - Catcher - Norris HS/Firth, NE

He's not playing in the highest level in NE, fyi. Still some good teams there, but not the best. He fared well in showcases though.

Here's a good read on Reetz. I hope the Nats can sign him away from his NEB schollie.

Hoping for another HS bat here. Trenton Kemp, Montrell Marshall, or Tate Blackman or arm Keith Weisenberg, David Peterson, or Cameron Bishop. Outside of the tough signs of course.

is there a reason to not go tough sign? Maybe the prospect of playing pro will be too enticing to pass up for an 18 year old when push comes to shove

It will be more common as we move through the draft.  There are players that say no matter what, they aren't signing.  Then they get picked n the 20th round and dont' sign.

Because they won't sign for 4th round money? Guys like Bukauskas were late first, second rounders. It's going to take a mill to sign him. Unless we save a good deal of money on Fedde and Suarez and punt the rest of the top 10, I don't see where that cash comes from.

Some of the guys I mentioned may be tough signs too. Just haven't read about it. Montes de Oca, Bukauskas, and Kendall are known as tough signs, and are sliding.
