That's interesting. Are there any detailed reads on Atlanta's method for handling pitchers?

What's interesting to me is some UVA pitcher got drafted by the Braves while a family friend played there. The Braves rep then was that they took great care of their pitchers and limited breaking pitches for a couple years, etc. Everyone was pumped that he was drafted by them.

Vindication for Luhnow and the Astros. I'll bet Rizzo drafts him now.

I report, you decide.  Might have been Alex Speier, who is now with Boston.com.

The life expectancy of a “second elbow” after Tommy John surgery is thought by some in baseball to be about eight years. One of the teams that believes it, not as dogma but as an important rule of thumb, is the Washington Nationals.

And that explains a lot. Like why Max Scherzer arrived. Why Jordan Zimmermann almost certainly will leave after the 2015 season. And why, hold on, Stephen Strasburg is highly likely to depart D.C. after the 2016 season as well.

apparently they're expecting a very short career for little Gio (surgery in 2012, expected 2016 debut)

@clarkspencer: Henderson Alvarez is having a MRI on his right elbow, according to sources. Would be major blow to #marlins if damage is found.

Actually doesn't leave much time for JZ or Stras, not that they'll even be with us much longer.

partial tear.  Last I saw he was going to try to pitch through it. Maybe a platelet rich blood injection, too.  Stinks for my fantasy team.
