Netflix has only series 17 and up now.  From that, I think the Nile special is best to start.

Yep.  What's clear is that they never took adequate corrective action until he was over the edge.  Not unlike a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.  If the parents give in, kid learns bad behaviour pays.

If you heard toddler screams on your commute this evening, that was me applying this very Tom Terpism given to me at CCSP.

That said, if you don't like Brit humor in general...
I've found it to be the most accessible, least british-y British show I've watched, if that makes sense.

I had a friend's kid drop the the floor in a screaming rage.  I invited the other kids to come over and witness this extremely well executed temper tantrum.  Notice the screaming, the crying, the pounding of the floor.  This is showing great style!  I guess that's not what he wanted, he sort of sheepishly got up and wandered off to do something else.

the BBC's "Top Gear Live" tour will go on, with the three original presenters, but under a different name:

Has he ever apologized?

He has defended the producer in question, told paparazzi to leave him alone, and apologized to him personally, yes.  He hasn't made a "public apology," no.

Andy Wilman and James May both quit yesterday, top gear seems like it's officially dead

It was dead the moment they didn't review Clarkson's contract.  With May and Wilman (who worked with Clarkson to create the revamped Top Gear) gone from the show, it seems likely they'll make something new together.

Sounds like Hammond has a non-compete so it may be a while.

i figure this will last a half season, then they'll pay through the nose to get the original crew back:

I don't hate the move to install Evans as presenter. He is a petrol head and has a collection to rival that of Clarkson (I understand). However he's a divisive character on these shores as the vitriol directed his way will attest.

I probably won't watch, only because I was such a fan of the three they had, but it's far from the worst hire they could have made.

I'll give it a shot the same way I did top gear us because without the original four, it's a different show. I just want James May to keep getting shows- I've been a fan of all of his stuff, the drinking shows with oz Clark, man lab, toy story, 20th century

I hope so.  James also has a show coming on BBC2, something about James May builds a car live.  Sounds fun.
