hopefully May and Hammond go elsewhere with him. The bbc say they'll renew the show, but good luck with that

I bet Clarkson wishes he hadn't sold the rights to the BBC now.

Is he prevented from going to netflix with May and Hammond and filming another show about cars? The BBC paid alot of money for one year of a show, bet they reget buying the rights

Typically they'll negotiate a non-compete as part of the severance agreement, or it may already be in the employment agreement.

they chose not to renew the employment agreement (there's also an assumption that you're entitled to earn a living so non competes often fail regardless)

Sounds like May doesn't want to stay on without Clarkson.

Only if they actually ride longhorns in each episode.

bbc had to fire him, but as a sports fan and someone who enjoys tv, rooting for/watching douche bags/felons is nothing new

Clarkson sacked

-

It is understood a report into the so-called ‘fracas’ at a North Yorkshire hotel, concluded that presenter spent 20 minutes verbally abusing producer Oisin Tymon, before launching a 30 second physical assault on him.

The outburst came after Clarkson, who is one of the BBC’s best paid stars, was informed he could not have steak and chips after a day’s filming because the hotel where they were staying had stopped serving hot food.

So he abused and assaulted his producer for 20 minutes over not being able to get a steak room service? I...uh...wow.

Seems like an alright guy, to me!

Clarkson's behavior is inexcusable and the BBC did the right thing IMHO, but this still sucks.

Yep.  What's clear is that they never took adequate corrective action until he was over the edge.  Not unlike a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.  If the parents give in, kid learns bad behaviour pays.

What's a good starting point for getting into this show?  I've got a week of straight up boring programming and need something to listen to.

the Vietnam road trip- it's a pretty good introduction to them, more character, less about the cars. The first amphibious car episode is probably their most famous.

I find I can tune in and watch it whenever. It's pretty much going to deliver on comedy.

That said, if you don't like Brit humor in general, or if you get butthurt at people bashing Murican cars, you may want to go elsewhere.

most networks let their big-time on-air personalities do whatever the freak they want, only enabling their already huge egos to grow even stronger. good idea to let egomaniacs do whatever they want, imo!

There's so much great stuff it's difficult to point you to a starting spot.  A few highlights off the top of my head (just about everything is available on youtube):

- Top Gear Winter Olympics
- US Challenge
- Attempt to build a car capable of crossing the English channel
- Vietnam challenge
- Middle East Challenge
- North Pole Challenge
- Reliant Robin Space Shuttle
- Search for the source of the Nile

Most of the latest season has been great as well.
