It was around 14 degrees when I left for work just after 8am... We got about an inch of snow here in the mountains.

THIS ain't every year.    It's been awhile since it's been this cold (though we have had more snow).    Trust me, folks in DC do not know how to drive in snow.   :)

Back in the aughts, I loved watching the Hummers and Escalades with TX tags that would go flying into an intersection at 50 mph on sheet ice and then go into a spin when Bubba stood on the brakes.  They have largely been replaced by people from the northeast who drive small hybrids, so the mayhem on the streets (at least here in the city) is down about 80%.

[edit: they can do what they want about the teaching of evolution, but newtonian physics is a good thing to have some basic comprehension of when driving large vehicles on a low-friction surface]

folks in DC do not know how to drive in snow.   :)

One of the advantages of being retired/laid off/etc. is I don't have to watch that anymore.    It scared the hell out of me Ali.    I'd drive in 66 and these characters would go flyin' by me.    I always tell the missus about her Explorer   ....    four wheel drive slides on ice.   :P

I drive my '97 Saturn, front wheel drive, 5 speed and have never been "stuck".   Of course in the summer, it's the motorcycle and ...  well  ... that's a different story.    ;)
