Holy. Crap.

Meredith Wills ‏@Bbl_Astrophyscs  2h
W better data on Cespedes throw: RT @pobguy: @Bbl_Astrophyscs @cwyers @sean_forman @fastballs 3.17s hang t, ~318' dist-->97-98 mph/12-15 deg

If that throw averaged 97-98 MPH for 318 feet, he should be closing as well as playing the field.

It started at that. If it averaged that he would have been throwing about 105.

Ah, that's what I figured. Too bad. Still amazing.

Broke out the Wilbon's comment about Machado and the discussion of Wilbon more generally.

OK, so this JB Jr. play is getting some hype on the MLB website email today.
http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/51231442/v33665447/

As Remy points out, JB Jr. breaks in and then goes back to the wall.  He makes a toss to 1st from the wall that is about 4 feet off line but in plenty of time to double off the runner.

I'm thinking Span makes the correct read, coasts under the fly, makes an unspectacular catch, hits Desmond with the cutoff throw, and Desi throws to ALR on target for an unspectacular play that still records two outs.   This is an example of how the eye can deceive you as to how well an OF plays his position.

We don't get the double play because the runner knows it's Span and that he gets to everything so he's not around second base when he catches the ball. And if it were Harper in CF, he'd have hit LaRoche in the buttons.

not only that, the batter knows it is Span in CF so rather than hitting a fly, he bunts.

And then they have a runner on second. So, no matter how you dice it, we're screwed.

While heyward's exploits cost me a win in one fantasy league, I'm grateful for the run and RBIs in another . . . WHEN THE BARVES LOSE!

That's the internet equivalent. SF is like Kenny from South Park.
