The money doesn't concern me with Kazmir. It's the second year. I would not have given him two years. One year would have allowed them to cut their losses if he ends up being Ben Sheets 2.0 for them. If I was in the market for a two year deal for a veteran starter, I would have scraped together some extra cash to beat Hudson's offer from SF instead, or perhaps Bronson Arroyo. (Although he'll get vastly overpaid by someone like the Mets.)

I think they should have put some protection into the second year, tied into injuries... still, 22 million isn't too much if he can get his innings in.

We have already brought back one piece of the Gio trade. How about another?

You sure dude? Not seeing it anywhere yet. The SBNation Tigers blog has nothing, nor does MLBTR.

Dan Plesac had it as his a hypothetical move when they were running down the Tigers projected lineup on MLB Tonight earlier today.

Tommy Hanson non-tenderes.  It doesn't seem like that long since he was the the super touted ace of the future

Athletics Acquire Jim Johnson From Orioles For Jemile Weeks

By Jeff Todd [December 2, 2013 at 10:39pm CST]

The Athletics have acquired closer Jim Johnson from the Orioles in exchange for second baseman Jemile Weeks, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter).

They really wanted to get rid of Jim Johnson, didn't they!

I think I heard the Twins or Marlins might want him.

i wonder if this means that Buck heads back to FL.  I'm hoping we sign him to be our backup here.

Why is there so much activity today?   Have you been checking mlbtraderumors.com?  Every time I go there there's another signing/trade that wasn't there the last time I checked.  It's crazy.

Maybe trying to get stuff done in advance of the craziness that ensues at the Winter Meeting?
This next week should be lots of fun if so  :)

last night was the deadline to tender contracts, winter meetings are next week, so we're in full swing now.

And a 3 team deal (maybe a 4 team deal as the white sox might be involved)
Heath Bell & Ryan Hanigan to Tampa, a bunch of minor leaguers going to AZ, Cincy, and Chicago.

Beane sends Seth Smith to San Diego for Luke Gregerson. Good deal for Oakland. Smith is very replaceable and Gregerson is an excellent set-up man, even though he's a rental.
