It's been less than a week into the offseason and the terrible threads have already surfaced.

It's going to be a long winter.

just trying to see if I can get the truly excruciating one started early

I don't see this happening especially if he sticks to his request for a ten year deal.  Paying him, I'm guessing, a backloaded contract until he is forty would be very dangerous.

People are already talking about how bad signing Werth to such a long, lucrative deal is this would be very similar.  It would make the offense a lot better over the next few years though.

i don't think this is going to get quite the interest of "sign Fielder" (isn't that still the most popular thread ever?)

my attitude is that I prefer random "I want this guy" stuff to be in a general thread if it is just wishful thinking. If there were an indication we were actually pursuing Cano, Ells, Choo, Abreu, etc... then separate thread is in order.  But that is just me and others can do what they want.

The thread with the most replies is the 11/12 offseason thread.  The player thread with the most (in second place) is the Dunn thread.

How many posts did I have In the Fielder thread?  If this is serious with Cano, I may top the Fielder thread.

We're $86 million under the salary ceiling, our owner is the richest in MLB, our area is affluent, but no, don't sign a guy who's made the ASG four years running, we have enough of those already, and besides, we wouldn't want to be like the Dodgers anyway.

Exactly. This is the Washington Nationals you're talking about.

There are two ways the lineup could be improved.

Middle of the line up Outfielder, and you move/bench Span
Middle of the line up 1B, 2B, or 3B and you move/bench LaRoche

I prefer the second if anything because if you are trying to bring in pop, LaRoche doesnt give you OBP, Span does
I don't think either happens to be honest with you

To do either correctly, the terms in years can not restrict you from Keeping Desi, Harper, Stras, JZ. Thats the core of this team, Rendon to early on to muddy that picture.

I think Cano messes up that last part, so I don't want to do it. Also, while I don't want to judge a man's personality I don't know, he strikes me as the type that will be done caring before the ink dries.

I agree completely. And Span had a strong enough second half that I think it would be a mistake to move him over LaRoche.
