Solis took the loss today - 6 hits and 3 runs in 3 innings.  None of the other Nats prospects did anything much either.

Goodwin has been taking lessons from Span on how to get picked off at first. That was far too close for comfort.

Damn, Meyer developed quite the hook.

I think we're going to regret that trade. Especially with Peter Bourjos available.

He's going to be really good, put up a pretty solid year at AA despite some injury time.  3.21 / 1.271 in 70 IP.  84Ks, 29BB.

I could be confused but didn't you mean WHEN P. Bourjos was available . I never understood Rizzo giving up Meyer when Bourjos would have cost nothing.
I posed the question several times here and it never yielded more than a mild response. I like Span but the cost was too high IMHO.

He really wasn't available last offseason. Or, more precisely, his cost was still too high. A lot of stock was put in that 2011 season. But we now have two more seasons worth of data and it's pretty obvious that Bourjos is not that guy. He may hit for a .270~ average, but that power was a fluke and his health is questionable. What isn't in doubt is his defense, which, when healthy, can be some of the best in baseball.

I'd love to have Meyer, have played Bryce in CF all season, and then decided if we want Bourjos.

I think that was my best case scenario last year . BH in CF , MM in LF and still have Meyer. I repeatedly said the Rizzo got too cute with his acquisitions last off season. People will say that Morse would have had a disastrous year with his injuries but who is to say that the same injuries would have occurred if he remained here.

The bottom line for me is how will Cole and Roark compare to Meyer over the next 5 yrs.

How about accepting the fact that people said Morse was an injury risk and that was born out. You are conveniently overlooking the three pitchers that the team received for Morse(Cole,Krol &Treinen). One of whom pitched for the Nats in 2013 and another (Cole) was a top 100 prospect before the A's screwed him up and will be again going into 2014. Nothing has changed about Meyer, he is still a very good prospect but until he develops a third pitch, he profiles as reliever.

Roark had nothing to do with either of Meyer deal or the Morse deal.  He came over for Cristian Guzman.

And as an aside, Morse was just plain not good at baseball last year, even when he wasn't injured. .270 OBP. Or maybe I missed something and he spent the whole year playing hurt?

We got lucky and had morse for a career year. Getting traded was the best thing that ever happened to his reputation because if he was sitting in left not hitting and constantly getting injured this year, people would be calling for his scalp. I don't think there is another player I'm more sick of hearing about, I wanted to keep him, but Rizzo was absolutely correct in getting rid of him

I don't mind trading Morse. I'm just underwhelmed by Span. Especially with Ellsbury and Shoo available this offseason.
