Mark Zuckerman @ZuckermanCSN

Don't write that lineup down in pen just yet. Looks like Harper is about to be scratched.

Mark Zuckerman @ZuckermanCSN

Harper indeed scratched. Met with Davey and trainer earlier. Span now leading off in CF.

They don't want him getting plunked again.

Thank you.... jesus. Guy gets sick and hurt more than anyone I can remember. It's just always something, every week. Knee, shoulder, flu, ejected.... I wish we weren't stuck building around a guy who can't stay on the field.

We have a star QB who plays 5 out of 16 games in a season.

I doubt that. Time and time again you react to every Harper move like a scorned teenage girl.

I'd like to know the true reason for this late move but we probably will never learn the truth. Wouldn't surprise me if all they want is to avoid another confrontation. I doubt it's just about which side of the plate he bats from since Span is also a lefty.

Hopefully, they don't want him out there when the crap breaks loose.   :)

WTF are you talking about? He has already played in over 80 games this season which is over half the season with still over 40 games left to play. Barring further injury he will end up playing over 110 games this season which would amount to playing 11/12 games in an NFL season.

Nats2, you're in primo pre-game mode.   I can't wait to see the show through the rest of the thread.

Considering he was the one targeted they need to give him a chance to avenge himself. Then again if he's on the bench he can stay fresh in order to charge the field and single out his targets.  :stir:

They're sitting him so there's no further incident? If that's the truth that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in 30 years of following baseball.

Are you kidding me?

I'm just throwing crap at the wall. I don't know if that's the reason. I just think there's a sliver of a possibility that they don't want him to get plunked again. Of course if crap breaks out and he's in the dugout I don't see how they could protect him from coming out to join the festivities. Some posters would prefer it if they put Harper, Gio, Strasburg and who knows how many others in a bubble until the Nats leave Atlanta out of fear that they will get a boo boo.

Conflict-avoidance mode, one of the diseases of our time.

[although with Teheran starting tomorrow, we may have even bigger possibilities for festivities then - so is he a healthy scratch tomorrow too?]

HARPER SCRATCHED:

Quote
Update: After meeting with a trainer and manager Davey Johnson, Harper has been scratched from tonight's game. Denard Span will now hit leadoff and play center.

Harper was hit by two pitches last night and left the Nationals' clubhouse after the game with a pad on his left triceps.

More to come on that front.
