I think he's done. We all knew when he signed the deal that the back end of it, as is the case with most long-term deals, would be painful. That sure proved true.

What galls most is we had 3 better outfield options available to us.

I think Eaton has a bit of a reputation of being an jerk.

Perfect. ;)

I explain this to a lot of the people.

Being an jerk is often underrated.

Yep, and I blame that on a certain someone who's already been discussed ad nauseum and hopefully won't be with the club in 2018.

Who?

Werth's lack of speed also caused him to miss a fly ball against the dodgers in game 5 and he was halfway between 2nd and 3rd base staring at Toles getting the ball and while given the go sign from Sendley, should have known better and stopped as he should have known better. Even Trea Turner is not going to beat a throw home from left while being in the middle of 2nd and 3rd. He'd be thrown out by 15 feet and not the 60 feet that Werth was thrown out by.

Have to wonder who's going to play that role next year. My bet is that a more good-natured but equally feisty Eaton sets the tone.

Harper isn't gone yet. He can easily fill this role for one year.

I don't think superstars make good leaders (and I don't think Harper is that smart a player) but it really not important, I guess. That person, or persons, will arise organically.

Murphy and Scherzer are good leaders. Zimm is also the strong silent lead by example type.

I was really talking about that edgy, hardnosed, sort-of-an-jerk kind leader.

Not again please.  :hysterical:

No, you're not getting it.  He should be the manager.  Stupid and angry is a wonderful combination.

Papelbon would be a perfect manager for this team!  I hear he's knows a thing or two about choking.
