What should Rendon's nickname be?

The Grin: no need for explanation
7 (11.7%)
El Martillo:  Spanish for "The Hammer;" earned by the comparison of his wrists and swing to Aaron's
5 (8.3%)
Tony "Two bags":  in honor of his doubles, not his once and maybe future position. sounds vaguely mobbish.
29 (48.3%)
The Hitman:  also has mob overtones

I fell asleep early but looking at the box score it seems Rendon was pulled after 2 at bats.  Is he ok?

Per Janes it was to give Rendon a break.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2017/08/07/now-the-cubs-broadcasters-are-taking-issue-with-dusty-bakers-lineup/?utm_term=.7e3227fc8a53
Listened to talk radio on the way back  after the game. Two women. Both loud. One caller said he was at the game and he was suprised how angry some Nats fans at the game (not me) were with Dusty. One of the hosts said I feel like Dusty has the effect on fan bases after a while (what manager doesn't; go to the Cubs MLB board and look at all the hate for Maddon). She added that he was old school with his lineups. That's why is old school guys love him.

Rendon seems like he doesn't want to hit second so why force that issue?

I'm with you.   If Rendon is happy battin' 6th  ...   so be it.    I find it interesting that Chicago broadcasters would chime in.

They're not wrong. Zimmmeran's hitting .222/.278/.444 the last 30 days. We need Rendon in that 4 spot. We're getting to the point where teams are pitching around Harper to get to Zim. Swap them. Or hit Murph in the cleanup spot. But they gotta get Zim's black hole out of there.

One month sample sizes should not be used for doom and gloom prognostications.  Look at Rendon's April.  It happens to everyone.

If Dusty won't move Rendon from 6 to 2 he won't move him to 4.

Zimmerman by month
April - .420/.458/.886
May - .319/.363/.543
June - .283/.323/.467
July - .234/.282/.455

He's done. Swap em. This is why I've maintained that Zim was hurt in June and needed to go to the DL

Players who are hurt don't gradually decline.  His April was absolutely absurd and unsustainable and that streak leaked into May.  I'm still just seeing a bad month here.

I'm seeing an enormous drop off in June. On June 10th, he sat out a few games due to a back injury. Since he came back on June 13, he's hitting .231/.276/.404. That's two months worth of suck. That's basically what he did last year.

That's a more persuasive sample.

ISO is holding up, so the power is still there.  Monthly BABIP numbers are .448 (ridiculous), .366 (high), .293 , .245 (low), .182 so far in August.  This is actually his best month in terms of soft/medium/hard contact, and last month wasn't bad.  Biggest difference is, since April, he went back to being a GB hitter (relative to flies).  That wasn't so noticeable when he was crushing liners at a 20%+ rate, but in July, he dropped to 10%.  So far in August, he's hit flies like April, but isn't getting liners too.

Gonna guess we'll be OK with his August and he'll have respectable power numbers.

It's not good enough to be hitting 4th in the middle of three guys who are top 15 in OPS. He needs to be moved. Rendon needs to be hitting 4th or 5th (behind Murphy). If Zimmerman comes back, fine, but at this point, Dusty needs to adjust the lineup to get Rendon as many at bats as possible.

Zimm's just cooling down so he can power back up and get hot in October when it matters.

at this stage in his career, I'd prefer Rendon 4th, too.  Just I think RZ will come around this month (still would want him in a less important spot in the batting order).

Spider will chide me for bringing this up, but Rendon now leads all MLB position players in fWAR. If you look at the stats it looks like he does everything really well, but nothing great, which is probably why he gets no real MVP buzz.

(He’s 8th in bWAR)
