What should Rendon's nickname be?

The Grin: no need for explanation
7 (11.7%)
El Martillo:  Spanish for "The Hammer;" earned by the comparison of his wrists and swing to Aaron's
5 (8.3%)
Tony "Two bags":  in honor of his doubles, not his once and maybe future position. sounds vaguely mobbish.

discusses a minor change in his hitting approach - an adjustment to his positioning of his back foot - that lets him hit high hitting better.

What are the chances he gets into the All Star game? I'm assuming Kris Bryant will hog up all the votes but perhaps Rendon could get in via that final vote thing or whatever its called...

Still not good. Arrenado is actually better and Bryant is more popular. Hard to carry three. I like him under the radar.

Rendon is 4th in MLB and 1st in the NL in WAR.

Its a crime he wasn't an All Star.

Yeah but that just makes him the most valuable player in the National League.  And that's just according to mathematics.  And that's just numbers, which have no place in sports.  Sooooo not really a strong argument.

It's not really a crime, it's the system.  To get on the All Star team he would have had to be voted by the fans, which wasn't going to happen.   He was not going to be named to the team by the manager when we already had five players, and that seems reasonable to me.   I suppose Maddon could have omitted Strasburg and named Rendon instead, but then we'd be nagging instead about Strasburg.  Perhaps Rendon deserved it more than Zimmernan (I said "perhaps") but Maddon didn't have the option to omit Zimmerman because he was voted in as a starter.  And if Zimmernan had not been an All Star, well, that would indeed have been  crime.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree that it can ever be considered reasonable to leave the most valuable player in a league off that league's 32-man All-Star roster.

He's the NL MVP?  I think that's a stretch.

Managers don’t pick the reserves anymore per the most recent CBA. Players vote on them. The commissioners office then picks the last five or 6 to account for any grievous omissions and mostly to make sure that every team has a representative. That last rule is what kept Rendon off actually.

If you go by actual wins created, he is the most valuable. Whether he would win an award is a different matter. But objectively, yes he is.

Exactly.  I don't think there's a chance he'll win the award but the award is a vote by humans which is inherently subjective.  Mathematics are an objective metric and according to that metric, he is the most valuable player.

I didn't know that.   Given that, I would agree, he should have made it.

Rendon is on pace for an 8 win season, which would put him squarely in MVP contention. Kris Bryant didn’t have 8 WAR last year and he won the award. It would be especially impressive given that he was pretty terrible before the 10 RBI game on April 30. It’s pretty amazing how little recognition he is getting.

He's just an all around good player. So solid. Even when I know he's hot I still get surprised by the stats.

Extend!
