What should Rendon's nickname be?

The Grin: no need for explanation
7 (11.7%)
El Martillo:  Spanish for "The Hammer;" earned by the comparison of his wrists and swing to Aaron's
5 (8.3%)
Tony "Two bags":  in honor of his doubles, not his once and maybe future position. sounds vaguely mobbish.
29 (48.3%)
The Hitman:  also has mob overtones
19 (31.7%)

Espinosa was overly powerful at being terrible, and that's what Davey likes.

This whole thread was started by Espi in the hopes of getting his job back by bashing the sunshine kid.

My interpretation: Rendon doesn't look strong, but he hits the ball perfectly. I happened to look up some of the home run hitters from when I was a kid. Yes, there was Ted Kluzewski, and Harmon Killebrew was so strong that any ball that hit him landed with a dent. Willie Mays, though, was about 180 pounds. Aaron was about the same.

I think Davey has said, since last year, that Rendon's swing reminds him of Aaron.

In other news, bloviated is a great word which needs to appear more frequently on WNFF.net.

Not only bloviated, but sobriquet as well.

My only question, really, is do you bloviate your sobriquet or is it vice-versa?

You know what's not funny?

Rendon has only played 13 games and he already has the fourth highest WAR of all the hitters on the roster.  :(

Sort of sums up why we are where we are in the standings.

However, if you're going to continue to stay on topic, might I suggest you get JCA in here to remove the bloviated discussion.  It's high time I got credit for starting another thread that I didn't start.   :stir:

Anyone who comes into our line-up and at least looks like he's giving a proper effort can drink anything he wants.

...oh wait, the title is 'Enter the Rendon with His Grin'...I thought it was Gin...reflects, I guess, how some of us (including yours truly) are getting through this season....

May I direct you to this? I'm pleased with it. I worked in a dig at the Orioles Hot Air team on the Mid Atlantic Sports Report.

I love Rendon's swing. He just looks so effortless. Kid was born to swing a bat.

I really hope Davey didn't say that.

Not sure about Johnson, but Rendon's college coach likened his wrists to Aaron's: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2011-07-25/sports/35236401_1_draft-prospects-hand-eye-coordination-head-coach

Why?

If he did, Davey Johnson was a player in this league and has managed since before some on this forum were born. He isn't going to blow smoke. He has a great baseball mind. It isn't like some no name Sally League manager said it.

Also, wasn't Davey a teammate of Aaron back with the Barves?

Yes - toward the end of his career, from 1973-74.
