What should Rendon's nickname be?

The Grin: no need for explanation
7 (11.7%)
El Martillo:  Spanish for "The Hammer;" earned by the comparison of his wrists and swing to Aaron's
5 (8.3%)
Tony "Two bags":  in honor of his doubles, not his once and maybe future position. sounds vaguely mobbish.
29 (48.3%)
The Hitman:  also has mob overtones
19 (31.7%)

There have been some absurd conversations on this board in my time here, but this might just take the cake.

Rendon, no, I would not drill. He's just a goofy rookie is my take.

Phillips, yes, I would drill him every chance I get. Everyone knows he's the ****iest in the game.

Billy Fucillo would for sure be drilled on the field.
I don't think I'd say Phillips is the cockiest in the game. Hanley Ramirez is still playing.

...that sobriquet belongs forever to Dick Stuart, first baseman for the Red Sox in the early '60's...won a home run title or two but couldn't field to save his life...he even got one of the earliest vanity plates with 'E-3'...it's because of people like him that they came up with the DH.

Couldn't field to save his life but started on a WS champion.   He has a ring.   He only had 4 more errors than Mazeroski in 1960 and fewer than Groat and Hoak.   That's the whole 1960 WS Champion infield.    Boston must have ruined him.   :)

Yes.

 :lmao:

My only point was "different strokes for different folks".    If I find a thread to be mindless or silly, I don't read it.   I try not to drop in and toss grenades (though I have after ugly Nats' losses).    Unless it's game day thread.   That is a free fire zone.

This is a freaking silly thread.

It's supposed to be silly, silly. It's a slow day so....

But I'm very serious about Brandon Phillips. He's reviled not because he's good; he's reviled because he has a penchant for chest thumping (literally) after making plays. Dude should know that's a football or basketball thing and violates the unwritten codes of baseball. :mg:

updated the thread title to emphasize this is only talking about the Grin and not his play.  Talking about his play would be boring.

A board really rocks when mods truly understand the satirical nature of the posters. And maybe do us a bit better. 8)

Since it's a slow day, maybe some should start an unwritten codes of baseball thread (and/or poll).  Which ones would you keep (even codify)?  Which ones would you trash?  (if you were the Unwritten Codes Czar and/or Bud Selig)

Wasn't this the Espinosa thread? It's not like we were forewarned that Little Miss Sunshine was attacking someones smile in here.

No, I broke it out of the Espinosa thread after close to 30 posts in a row not talking about Espinosa.

As for the Espinosa thread, there is one on the Farm board. He's irrelevant now as far as the major league 25 man roster.

Re-open in a couple weeks when Davey starts Espinosa?

I have a book titled "The Unwritten Rules of Baseball" by Paul Dickson.    There are a hell of a lot more than I knew or remember.

Is Fake Tough Hamels slated to pitch in the Philthy series? :mg:

Per the schedule on ESPN.com, apparently not - thus far only Cloyd has been announced (to pitch the series opener) and immediately prior to that the Phillies are at Colorado and Hamels is to start the finale of that series.

I'd take Hamels and Phillips on my team. You guys can have the "respectful" players. I'll take the successful ones.

I'll take the players that are both successful AND respectful. It's possible to be both, you know.

We have Zim, Harp, Desi, Werth, ALR, and Stras for starters.

Votto and Wright from around the league come to mind too.

Can we keep the Corey Brown stuff out of the Rendon thread?  It was a pretty lame hijack, even if this thread is Seinfeld comes to :w:

Edit - moved the Brown high school incident discussion to the Brown FTP thread in the Farm.
