What should Rendon's nickname be?

The Grin: no need for explanation
7 (11.7%)
El Martillo:  Spanish for "The Hammer;" earned by the comparison of his wrists and swing to Aaron's
5 (8.3%)
Tony "Two bags":  in honor of his doubles, not his once and maybe future position. sounds vaguely mobbish.
29 (48.3%)
The Hitman:  also has mob overtones
19 (31.7%)

Where did you practice orthodontics?

Seriously, who gives a crap about his grin? We've bloviated on some strange topics before but this one...  :smh:

I know one thing.  He can leap higher than any ballplayer I've seen recently.  And if he keeps hitting, he can look like Frankenstein for all I care.

But don't you think his constant grinning on the field might come across as arrogance. Or is it indication of a lack of focus? And do they calculate facial expressions in WAR? Okay, the last one was a bit much.

Pretty sure he's having fun. Because it's a game. Gio and Detwiler always seem to be grinning. Harper was laughing it up during the blow out loss. I'd rather be with someone who can have fun, even when things are down, than someone who's a grouch all the time.

Nah. I think he's a happy kid that the world hasn't beaten down yet.  And I think that loosey-goosey-ness translates into flexibility at the plate: a willingness to choke up with two strikes and put the goddamn ball in play. Something many of the other dour players on this team could use.

Of course, I'm making all that up to fit my perception of him. :)

He isn't laughing AT the other team so why would they think it as arrogant?  If he does it all the time it surely isn't directed at anyone.

If smiling bothers folks, let's give Rendon a nickname incorporating "the grin" as a menacing trait.   I'm gonna start calling him Tony "The Grin" Rendon.     He's a hitman and just before he delivers the two run double, he grins at the pitcher.    I hope the other team sees it as arrogant.

We have "The Chin" at first, "The Grin" at second, "Operation Desi-storm" at short and "Zim" at third.    That's a major league infield worthy of "Red", "Scooter", "Pee Wee", "Maz", "Tiger", "Rocky", "Dr. Strangeglove", "Big Klu" "Big Poison", "Little Poison", etc.    Now let's kick some Rockie ass.

Mitlen you should have saved this for 8:40 pm.  It would have served as an excellent pep talk to for people up.

Of course, he's not laughing AT the other team. But that won't stop a prickly pitcher from drilling him anyway.

And, yeah, Det's and Gio's grins are goofy too. I like my player to be scowling, a la Stras. :mg:

Or it might be one of those nervous grins that belies an intensity or anxiety that will cause him to tighten up and be overanxious and swing wildly.

[...]"Dr. Strangeglove"[...]

...that sobriquet belongs forever to Dick Stuart, first baseman for the Red Sox in the early '60's...won a home run title or two but couldn't field to save his life...he even got one of the earliest vanity plates with 'E-3'...it's because of people like him that they came up with the DH.
