You mean the White Stripes song "Seven Nation Army?" The word "Baltimore" is (not) in the lyrics - but it sure sounds like it - so they've adopted that guitar riff as a chant. Big at Ravens games too. And Terps basketball.

But you know this. You must mean something else.

Speaking of Orioles fan fervor, what were the fans chanting late in the game? It sounded suspiciously like Braves fans while the do the tomahawk chop.

As a disgruntled ex-Oriole fan, I know that Baltimore is more of a baseball town than DC. Smaller attendance is a factor of Baltimore's lesser economy. As for the O's in third place, I fully expect both the Bosox and NYYs to collapse. I grant that the Orioles pitching is suspect, but if they get any pitching whatsoever, they are going to be unstoppable.

Attendance at OPACY has been sliding for years due to poor performance of the franchise.  Also, it's first and foremost a Ravens town now.

It was once a great baseball town, but now, not so much.

Thanks, I didn't know that. So, Baltimore fans are misconstruing the word "Wichita"?

There are a million different threads this would be appropriate but I'll post here:

NAME    GP    AB    R    H    2B    3B    HR    RBI    BB    SO    BA    OBP    SLG    OPS
Batting #2    53    212    28    41    5    0    7    17    12    54    .193    .239    .316    .555
Batting #3    53    193    36    60    7    1    15    31    28    38    .311    .396    .591    .987

Our best batting after our worst all season.  Harper is one of 2 players in baseball (Morse being the other actually) with over half his RBIs coming from driving himself in on HRs.  One can say this shows how important Werth is to the team.  One could also say this shows inept lineup management.  One could say it reflects how everyone chokes in the 2 spot, even guys like Desmond/Lombo who seem to hit ok elsewhere.  I'm not sure what it shows, but it sucks.

I think Davey's hoping the #2 spot might see some pitches with quality behind in #3.  Obviously not much to show in terms of results.

IMO the 2 hole is the hardest spot in the lineup to hit in. You have to have the patience of a leadoff hitter, be able to move hitters around, the speed and ability to put balls in play while not grounding into double plays, but you also need some power to drive guys in if need be. It's a jack of all trades, master of none type position that most can't handle. Werth is the perfect 2 hole guy. Him not being in the lineup is just big.

it is a reflection of the Nats having the third worst team OBP behind the Marlins and White Sox

Don't forget the fervor of the crowd. I've never seen that at Nats Stadium. I expect the Orioles to end up with the best home record in baseball.

Really? I've seen it plenty of times. Anytime there is a huge comeback with a big crowd, you get that. Not that it matters to the outcome of the game.

No, earlier, "I'm going to fight 'em off" I think are the words.

But seriously, listen to this. Jesus.

Meanwhile, hitting 8th is a guy with an 8% walk rate and the 4th highest OBP of anyone starting that night. Good work Davey

Oddly, their home record isn't near as good as their road record.

baltimore's crowd is no different than any other crowd. When the team is scoring runs they will rise to the occasion. Last night they were in the middle of a major comeback victory so they were loud.

That doesn't surprise me. Their offense is pretty potent, but the pitching has its issues. Offenses tend to light it up in the band box. The O's can score well on the road in more pitcher friendly parks, but the teams with good pitching can hold their own in OPACY.

Well I guess I'm just not lucky enough to be serenaded by Celine Dion caliber gags, because when I go to town I'll make a girl sound like Fozzy Bear.... All you hear is "Wokka Wokka Wokka"

What the freak. Harper may have passed the Concussion test, but they need to send Davey for an Alzheimer's test.

Past caring at this point. Season is done. All the people who tried to tell me that Davey was better than Riggleman have nothing of value
