How many players signed for more than Kobernus? Not Kipnis or Seager, which look like better picks.

Just in rounds two-six, and this is not based on talent, but who got a bigger bonus than Kobernus (705K).

Round 2
SD - Everett Williams - 775K
BAL - Mychal Givens - 800K
SF - Tommy Joseph - 712K
DET - Andrew Oliver - 1.4M
LAD - Garrett Gould - 900K
NYM - Steve Matz - 895K
NYY - J.R. Murphy - 1.2M

Round 3
KC - Wil Meyers - 2M
TOR - Jake Marisnick - 1M
BOS - David Renfroe - 1.4 M
TB - Todd Glaesmann - 930K

Round 4
KC - Chris Dwyer - 1.4M
OAK - Max Stassi - 1.5M
TB - Luke Bailey - 750K

Round 6
PIT - Zach Von Rosenberg - 1.2M

Thanks. Meyers should have never dropped that far. It's just weird that the Nats chose not to spend when Rizzo has shown he'll draft talent regardless of bonus. Maybe because he wasn't a real GM at the time he didn't have the leeway.

I might have settled for Marisnick.

Didn't that class set a record for spending because of the Strasburg bonus?  I think there might have been a bit of a "don't stick too big a thumb in Selig's eye" element to going cheaper later.

Storen was an overdraft in part because of signability.  1st round talent, just projected to go later and paid thusly.

What's the story with RHP Ivan Pineyro?

Had this line today in Hagerstown: 6 IP 3 H 0 R 2 BB 12 K (Win)

Probably a fluke. Hickory struck out 18 times in the game vs Hagerstown (Suns won 3-0).
Again I ask, anyone have a scouting reportin on Pineyro?

Another good start today: 5 IP 4 H 0 R 1 BB 5 K (Win)

28 K/7 BB in 24.2 IP. He's 21 years old and from San Cristobal, DR

Rough pulling a guy who has a no hitter going after 8.    I guess they have hard limits (on pitch counts) with all these guys.

the Ryan Perry as a starter experiment isn't going so well, he was shelled today and has an ERA north of 7.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have gone with someone with more upside with his pick, if they weren't looking to save money.

he was projected to have more pop, but obviously he's sacrificed that for more contact.  also his speed is better than what they thought.

Yeah, I remember out of college he got a lot of Casey Blake comparisons. That obviously didn't pan out.

Lot less power, lot more speed.

Some rumblings about Fredericksburg possibly trying to lure Hagerstown a little further south with a new stadium.

http://news.fredericksburg.com/businessbrowser/2013/05/13/fredericksburg-seen-as-ideal-city-for-minor-league-baseball/?repeat=w3tc

Quote
Fredericksburg would be an “ideal location for minor league baseball,” a Washington-based firm told the city’s Economic Development Authority on Monday.

Members of the Brailsford & Dunlavey firm presented the results of a market analysis to determine the prospects of a multi-use baseball stadium in Fredericksburg. The EDA voted last month to spend up to $18,000 on the study.

Fredericksburg officials and local baseball enthusiasts have been making a push to attract a minor league team. Fredericksburg City Council member Matt Kelly said he and fellow Councilman Fred Howe have been talking to representatives of one single baseball team and working through ways to finance a multi-use stadium that is expected to cost about $28 million not including land acquisition.

Though nobody will confirm it, all signs point to the Hagerstown Suns as the focal point of the local effort. The Suns are a Class-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, and the team has been looking at potential new homes amid ongoing discussions with Hagerstown, Md., officials on a new stadium. Team majority owner Bruce Quinn has said that he sees a lot of potential for a team in Fredericksburg.

Seems like it would've been more logical to try and lure the P-Nats there when the new stadium plan was still the can being kicked down the road.

Lefty reliever Fernando Abad has yet to allow an earned run through six appearances in the month of May. He has shown versatility, pitching as much as 2 1/3 innings in relief for Syracuse and has a team-best 1.17 ERA this season. His 1.04 WHIP through 15 1/3 innings also stands out.

Some nice offense for the Chiefs in an 8-5 win last night:

• Owings 2-6, 2R, 2HR, 5RBI
• Rahl 2-5, 2R, HR, RBI (15-game hit streak)
• Kobernus 2-4, R, 2BB, SB, CS

Erik Davis allowed a run in 2IP to blow the save, but got the win.

Also, is it me or does Erik Davis feel (and look) like the next Tyler Clippard.

23.2 IP 18 H 4 ER 2 HR 8 BB 27 K (1-1, 7 Saves, 1.52 ERA, .207 BA against) in AAA Syracuse.

Potomac took a no hitter in to the 7th before losing it, Solis pitched the first 4, 3BB/4Ks, then David Fisher came in.  2 outs in the 7th now.

I thought Davis was a heavy sinker and groundball guy, while Clipp is change up and flies?  The K rates look similar.

Also, Aaron Barrett - was he someone we drafted or got in a trade?

Has a good changeup. And his fastball has played up as a reliever.

Quote
San Diego drafted Erik Davis in the 13th round last year, out of Stanford. He pitched excellently in his pro debut, showing sharp command of his 89-92 MPH sinking fastball, solid curveball and very good changeup. He never quite lived up to expectations in college, but scouts like his emotional fortitude: he was hit in the face by a line drive in the 2006 Cape Cod League, almost losing an eye and requiring reconstructive surgery. Davis will have to prove himself at higher levels, but he’s earned the opportunity, and I think he is a sleeper.

Quote
After finishing ’11 with five losses in six
starts after being dropped down from AA to
High-A, Davis appeared to have maxed out.
Switched to relief in 2012, the Stanford grad
picked up velocity, improved his control and
increased his K rate all at AA, enough to earn
both a look-see at AAA and a 40-man spot.
Has a FB/KCV/CH combo and profiles as a
middle reliever per Sickels.
