Strasburg normally sits 95-98 mph when he starts. I wonder what he could get to if he was a closer and just got to gas it up. You guys think he hit higher than Chapman's 105?
I believe he has hit 103 on some guns when in college. We do know he has broken 100 in college more than once. In MLB, I think his first season he exceeded 100 once or twice. Now he usually tops out around 99, but this year his velocity could improve a tick being another year removed from TJ. As a starter, I would only expect him to hit 100 a few times and only if he really needs to. If he closed I think he could probably match the 105 that Chapman threw.
That being said, it isn't his velo that blows my mind, it's the movement and velocity delta between his fastball and his change-up. Then again I believe his change is his best pitch. In my mind only two pitches are elite put away pitches (in all of baseball history). The changeup and the knuckler.
