His best pitch surely "isn't" the one he did for Toyota.

I think it has to be his fast ball. Every other pitch is set up by his gas. Well, perhaps its not his best pitch bit right now its his most important one.

Any one of them on any given day. And that's what make him special. And he's also working on a slider.

But, noooh, Mr. Halliday is a fine gentleman and all around good guy. He would never, ever throw at another player.

I predict at least two bench clearing brawls between the Philthies and the Nats this year.

Halliday is an intense competitor but I don't see him as douchey or anything like that. He's one of the best in the game.

What's the matter. Saint Halliday's halo slipping off bothering you a bit?

Excuse me if I don't :worship: him.

Strasburg normally sits 95-98 mph when he starts.  I wonder what he could get to if he was a closer and just got to gas it up.  You guys think he hit higher than Chapman's 105?

I believe he has hit 103 on some guns when in college.  We do know he has broken 100 in college more than once.  In MLB, I think his first season he exceeded 100 once or twice.  Now he usually tops out around 99, but this year his velocity could improve a tick being another year removed from TJ.  As a starter, I would only expect him to hit 100 a few times and only if he really needs to.  If he closed I think he could probably match the 105 that Chapman threw.

That being said, it isn't his velo that blows my mind, it's the movement and velocity delta between his fastball and his change-up.  Then again I believe his change is his best pitch.  In my mind only two pitches are elite put away pitches (in all of baseball history).  The changeup and the knuckler.

I'd really love Stras to learn a cutter.  The slider story is somewhat plausible considering that his curve was more slurve like rather than his current 12-6 style one.  If he watches film of his old pitching mechanics to watch his slurve, he might re-harness that as a slider.  Still, I'd rather a cutter so he can get more weak contact instead of just having another strikeout pitch.  More weak contact means more innings and less pitches.

As fun as those brawls are to watch, I hope we don't have them.  Those kinds of brawls can get your best players suspended or worse, injured.  I like the way Harper handled it last year by shaking it off and then stealing home and the way Moore handled it this year by shaking it off then hitting the double.

I'd really hate to get into a beanball war with the Phillies - we have a lot more to lose with suspensions and injuries than they do.  I wouldn't put it past them to deliberately set out to incite us into brawls knowing that any losses will hurt us a lot more than they hurt them.

IIRC, he hit 103 at least once during his famous first outing against the Pirates. My memory could be failing me but I know he hit at least 100 several times.

I suppose he could crank it up and hit 105 but it's not going to happen unless he relieves in the playoffs.
