Passionate isn't a word I would use to describe the "sterotypical" Philthy fan. Up until 2011, I saw more Nats games at CBP then at Nats Park due to my proximity to CBP. I've been heckled, yelled at, and witnessed some painful things.
I told this story a while back but it bears repeating. Some Philth fans were in the Diamond Club screaming at our players (not just Werth which they need to get the F over) and started bad mouthing Gio. They did it for about three or four innings until they found out they were sitting in front of Gio's parents.
My big issue isn't that they are obnoxious, it's the effect on the kids. People are going to have their outspoken opinions and that is their right to have and voice them. The problem with all the name calling is that you show young kids that "that is the way to be a fan" and they bring that into their daily lives. Some "parents" need to wise up and realize what they say and show to their young ones. Being passionate doesn't mean you have to be ignorant.
