Anyone want to bet the over on the total number of strikeouts that lineup has this year?  Wow.

Prado kills us so I am glad he is gone.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
Also on Prado: One of most popular players on #Braves, if not most popular. One former Brave ays losing him is a "bad move."

The Braves will be interesting to watch with Chipper and Prado gone.

Thank god no more Prado. Wish Arizona had got Simmons too though.

Hopefully the Uptons upton it this year.

freak.

That is all. Even without Prado, that's a pretty stacked lineup Atlanta has...

Check out Justin Upton's home road splits the last 3 years.

2010:
Home - .282/.371/.436/.807
Road - .264/.341/.449/.790

2011:
Home - .333/.411/.622/1.033
Road - .246/.328/.439/.767

2012:
Home - .313/.390/.534/.924
Road - .252/.326/.344/.670

He's leaving one of the most hitter friendly parks in Arizona and going to Turner Field which is a much more difficult place to hit HR's.

I freaked out at first when I saw the Upton deal but after analyzing it a bit more it's not that bad. Prado is extremely underrated and Upton's away splits aren't nearly as easy on the eye as his home splits.

Dave Cameron:

However, I’m not sure how much better this makes Atlanta in the short term. Prado was likely going to replace Chipper Jones at third base, but now they’re set to have 3B result in a Juan Francisco/Chris Johnson platoon of some sort, which isn’t exactly a stellar combination for a playoff contender. And, as Arizona found out this winter, there aren’t exactly a ton of available third baseman on the market, so turning around and making a follow-up trade to address that problem isn’t quite as simple as it might sound.

But, given the extra two years of team control and Upton’s potential for stardom, this is probably still a move worth making. They consolidated talent into one more valuable asset, and while it costs them depth in the process, mid-level prospects are easier to replace than high quality outfielders under team control through their age 27 season.

Overall, I expect that the sentiment on this trade is going to be mostly pro-Atlanta, as they get the big name player in exchange for an underrated high contact/gap power guy and a group of unexciting prospects, but I think this trade works for both sides. Arizona turns an outfielder into a third baseman, and given their depth at both positions, they’re probably not much worse off in the short term, plus they get some future value in the prospects to offset the chance of losing Prado after the season. Atlanta turns some pieces they didn’t necessarily see as foundational to their future into one big piece, and get to bet on both Uptons living up to their potential as teammates.

Win-win trades aren’t that common in baseball anymore. From my perspective, this appears to be one of the rare instances where both teams made a good deal.

It'll be interesting to see how the Upton-Upton pair works out. That would be a cool thing to have as a fan.

Yesterday I was 80% Dbacks fan, 20% Nats fan.

Those numbers have changed dramatically.  I grew up rooting for that team, I was a fan the second they were announced in 1995, but the moves made this offseason are worse than any 20 season losing streak or back to back 100 loss seasons.  The Arizona Diamondbacks shat this deal out simply so Kevin Towers could go on Vacation this Friday without distractions.  He said it wasn't a deadline, but it totally was.  I hate Kevin Towers, and the lies of the Front Office are too strong to look away from.

I am looking forward to my new beginning with the Washington Nationals.

I think most are undervaluing Upton. Could be a killer for the Nats.

I think Ken Kendrick is behind this trade. I'm starting to get the feeling that the All-Star coaching staff isn't all that it's cracked up to be

Upton
Upton
Freeman
Heyward
Uggla
McCann

That's a tough middle of the order.  Still a lot of K's.  Who's gonna lead off for them?  Still more holes in that lineup than ours, but it's close.  I still like our pitching more, pens about even.  This race is gonna be fun.

1. SS - Simmons
2. CF - B.J. Upton
3. LF - J. Upton
4. RF - Heyward
5. 2B - Uggla
6. 1B - Freeman
7. C - McCann
8. 3B - Francisco/Johnson
9. Pitcher

That is at least how I see it, unless they place Heyward in the 3 hole and JUp in the 4 spot.  Lot's of K's will come from this lineup.  Simmons has to produce as a leadoff guy, and he has the OBP to do it.

The lineup is solid, but the rotation has holes. Medlen and Hudson are good, but then it's Maholm, Minor, Beachy coming off of Tommy John and Teheran.... Meh.

The Dbacks were HELLBENT on getting rid of Upton.

Towers backed himself in to a corner with Justin Upton. He had no choice, especially after trading Bauer for Didi

Oh and:
@JackMagruder
#Dbacks expect to sign new 3B Prado, a free agent after 2013, to long-term extension in the near future, source said. Only way deal was made

Way to give Prado some leverage to add a little to his demand
