RHP A.J. Burnett, Marlins
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 27 -- The Marlins turned down an offer of Bronson Arroyo and pitching prospect Anibal Sanchez from the Red Sox, leaving the White Sox as the only team actively pursuing the right-hander, according to Florida-based reports. But the Chicago Sun-Times reported that a deal with the White Sox is unlikely, as Burnett's recent performance is giving Florida second thoughts about dealing him. In addition, the White Sox have no interest in picking up Mike Lowell, who has $21 million remaining on his Marlins contract.
RHP Sidney Ponson, Orioles
Contract status: Signed through '06
July 27 -- In addition to the Padres, the Rangers inquired about Ponson, according to a league source, just a day after Phil Nevin nixed a trade that would have shipped him to Baltimore for Ponson. Texas' interest in Ponson has increased dramatically, according to the source. Outfield prospect outfielder Adrian Gonzalez and veteran right fielder Richard Hidalgo are among those who could be moved by the Rangers.
1B Lyle Overbay, Brewers
Contract status: Aribitration-eligible after '06
July 27 -- Contrary to several media reports, Overbay is not available. "I've told clubs we're not moving him," Brewers GM Doug Melvin said. Melvin is banking that the market for Overbay will be better in winter, when teams are restructuring and are more likely to part with Major League players.
2B Alfonso Soriano, Rangers
Contract status: Arbitration eligible for '06
July 27 -- The New York Daily News and Newsday both reported that a rumored three-way trade involving the Mets, Rangers and Reds was making the rounds that would land Soriano and first baseman Sean Casey of Cincinnati for the Mets while sending prospects to the Rangers and Reds. A previous report said the Mets don't think they will be able to make a deal by the deadline for Soriano mainly because the Rangers are asking for too much in return. One high-ranking team official said the talks with Texas look "increasingly doubtful."
1B/DH Mike Sweeney, Royals
Contract status: Signed through '07
July 27 -- Several teams are interested in Sweeney but the Royals' asking price is too high, said The Kansas City Star. The Rangers do not want to part with outfielder Kevin Mench.
OF Randy Winn, Mariners
Contract status: Signed through '05 with club/player option for '06
July 26 -- In talks with the Yankees about a trade that might involve Winn for pitcher Carl Pavano, the Mariners are believed to have discussed including a starting pitcher in the deal, wrote the Seattle Times. The Yankees seemingly expressed no interest in left-hander Jamie Moyer, so Seattle might be willing to deal right-hander Joel Pineiro.

July 26 -- The Mariners can approach Moyer about a deal, but he can't be forced to leave because of his 10-5 status. He told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer he would consider leaving Seattle, depending on the destination. The Astros and Orioles are believed to have inquired about Moyer.
LHP Eddie Guardado
Contract status: Club/player option for '06
July 26 -- Under the terms of his contract, Guardado cannot be traded to 10 teams, including Boston and the Yankees. Seattle GM Bill Bavasi said it would take an exceptional deal to trade away Guardado, but if the Mariners ask, Guardado said he might have to agree to a deal. The White Sox and Nationals could be interested in the left-hander.
RHP Danys Baez, Devil Rays
Contract status: Signed through '05; club option for '06
July 24 -- A hard-throwing closer who knows how to pitch but owns deceiving numbers, Baez has drawn interest from the Mets, who are seeking to boster their bullpen, according to the New York Post. The paper also reports the Mets have their eye on Pirates closer Jose Mesa.
3B Sean Burroughs, Padres

July 23 -- With the Padres' acquisition of Joe Randa, Burroughs, who was sent down to Triple-A, is very much expendable.
OF Ken Griffey Jr., Reds

July 22 -- Griffey, a 10-and-5 guy, has indicated that he would consider a trade to a contender. The Reds probably wouldn't mind freeing up some payroll for the future, though Griffey's past health problems and large contract would make unloading him a difficult task. Still, his strong play for much of this season might draw some interest.

July 22 -- The Reds can either build their future around Dunn or ship him off before he's eligible for arbitration again this offseason. He's attracted interest from a wealth of teams, including his hometown Astros. But the Reds would be looking for several high-caliber pitching prospects in return, and that price tag might keep Dunn in Cincinnati.

July 22 -- The Red Sox love the right-hander's unflappable nature, but the fact remains that he might be their most viable chip in a deal for a front-line starter. The one rumor that keeps cropping up is Arroyo landing in Florida in a deal that would bring A.J. Burnett to Boston.
3B Bill Mueller, Red Sox
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- The switch-hitting third baseman is one of the core guys in the Boston clubhouse, and his loss would certainly be felt, particularly on defense. However, the Red Sox feel they have a solid alternative in Kevin Youkilis, and Mueller might be the piece necessary to bring a lefty reliever such as J.C. Romero to Boston.

July 22 -- The clubhouse comedian has kept everyone loose during his three years with the Red Sox. However, his production has declined to the point where he had yet to hit a home run on the road as of July 22. The Sox have an under-used veteran on the bench in John Olerud, so it would not be out of the realm of possibility to see Millar get dealt.
RHP Joel Pineiro, Mariners

July 22 -- A rotation mainstay for the past four seasons, Piniero has struggled with his control and command this season. But he has so much potential that a pennant contender might want to take a chance on him. He has been known to run hot and cold, running off an eight-game winning streak two years ago.
RHP Jorge Sosa, Braves
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- While thriving as a starting pitcher, Sosa has drawn some interest from some contenders. The Braves are confident that Tim Hudson, Mike Hampton and John Thomson will all be healthy for the stretch run, so they could deal Sosa and find some offensive help.

July 22 -- With his recent surge, the Braves are no longer thinking they have to deal Furcal. But he's also become more desirable to other teams and thus could provide a healthy return. Entering free agency in the offseason, it's assumed this will be his final season in Atlanta.
1B Doug Mientkiewicz, Mets
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- The Mets loved the idea of having a defensive first baseman who'd provide some offense when they signed Mientkiewicz. But his offense has been so lacking, it has prompted Willie Randolph to start lesser defenders at first. If another club wants the defense and can tolerate the lack of offense, the Mets could get by with Marlon Anderson and/or Chris Woodward.
RHP Tony Armas Jr., Nationals

July 22 -- The organization was not happy that Armas had to leave a game recently because of dizziness and dehydration. They felt he should have been hydrated before the game. Armas is in the last year of his contract and most likely will not be back with the team next year.
1B Ryan Howard, Phillies

July 22 -- Howard is the Phillies' most tradable commodity, and the slugging first baseman has shown impressive power during his latest big-league stint. Howard could bring in a starting pitcher, but Philadelphia first has to make sure that Jim Thome is healthy.
RHP Roger Clemens, Astros

July 22 -- Regardless of how much national press the Clemens-to-Yankees trade rumors produce, the truth is the Rocket isn't going anywhere and he never was. Any small possibility of Clemens agreeing to be traded to a contender for prospects dissolved when the Astros jumped back into the Wild Card race.

July 22 -- Lane is a long shot to be traded, and the Astros appear to be committed to giving him a full season to prove himself in the big leagues. Lane could become a solid power hitter but the Astros could deal him only if they are offered something spectacular in return. If Jeff Bagwell's career is over, Lance Berkman may take over first base permanently, which leaves at least one hole in the outfield.
RHP Brandon Backe, Astros

July 22 -- If the Astros were to fall completely out of contention, Backe may be a good way to get a Major League-ready outfielder. But this likely wouldn't happen until the offseason.
RHP Jeff Weaver, Dodgers
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- If the Dodgers decide they are sellers, Weaver would be their most attractive lure because his contract runs out this year and he'll be looking for multiple years at $10 million annually. He's an innings-eater who has pitched in bad luck this year. He's overcome a rotten experience in New York to reshape his career pitching in his hometown.
LHP Odalis Perez, Dodgers
Contract status: Signed through '07
July 22 -- His contract situation, the six weeks he spent on the disabled list with shoulder problems and a tendency to ruffle feathers in the clubhouse and front office make him more difficult to trade. But he's left-handed and his flirtation with a no-hitter in Philadelphia is an indicator of how good he can be when his mind is on pitching. When umpires give him the outside corner with his changeup, he starts to look like Tom Glavine.
RHP Kevin Millwood, Indians

July 22 -- The Indians remain unsure if they will be buyers or sellers. But scouts from teams like the Yankees, Red Sox and Angels have been looking in on Millwood's work. He's proved all season that his arm is sound, so he would make him a valuable addition to any contender's staff. His availability, though, depends solely on whether the Tribe stays in contention.
LHP Arthur Rhodes, Indians
Contract status: Signed through '06
July 22 -- Back to being a top-flight setup man, Rhodes should have appeal to teams that need to shore up their bullpen. He had added value because his contract runs through 2006, and at $3.7 million, its value isn't overly weighty. A power pitcher, he's looked dominant for much of the season. The question with him is this: Are the Indians contenders? If they are, he won't be traded; if they are not, he will.
RHP Bob Wickman, Indians
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- Proved again he's a dependable closer, a rare commodity on the trade market. Wickman isn't a dominant pitcher, which might scare teams off. He's also a 10/5 guy, which makes more difficult for the Indians to deal. His availability will depend on whether they stay contenders.

July 22 -- The Rangers have resisted all overtures for Mench, but he's the player a lot of clubs want in order to give up premium talent. If the Rangers were to acquire a heavy hitter like Mike Sweeney to fortify their lineup, Mench has often been mentioned as the key player that Kansas City would want in return.
1B Adrian Gonzalez, Rangers

July 22 -- Gonzalez is a talented player who's stuck in Triple-A because the Rangers already have an All-Star caliber first baseman in Mark Teixeira. If the Rangers could acquire significant pitching help for Gonzalez, who has high trade value, they would have a hard decision to make.
RHP Chan Ho Park, Rangers
Contract status: Signed through '06
July 22 -- Park was the Rangers' Player of the Month for April, but has regressed since then. If there's a club that feels Park might be able to rekindle the magic of his days with the Dodgers and would be willing to absorb some of Park's $15 million annual salary for the rest of this season and next season, it probably wouldn't take much player compensation to obtain the veteran right-hander.
LHP Jeremy Affeldt, Royals
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- Affeldt has been on and off the disabled list with groin problems. But he appears sound now. Affeldt has a 95 mph fastball and a sharp-sinking curveball and could be a closer, the job he had with the Royals until going on the DL. The Royals are still seeking a power-hitting corner outfielder.
RHP Mike MacDougal, Royals

July 22 -- MacDougal has regained the closer's job after LHP Jeremy Affeldt went out with groin problems. With Affeldt back, the Royals might trade either Affeldt or MacDougal. But GM Allard Baird won't squander either hard thrower on a chancy deal.

July 22 -- Now that he's getting to play almost every day, Long is recapturing the promise he showed in his first two years with the A's. He's impressed manager Buddy Bell but it's possible the Royals could package Long with a reliever, either Jeremy Affeldt or Mike MacDougal, to corral a hard-hitting young outfielder. GM Allard Baird, though, said Thursday that nothing was in the works on any front.
OF Rondell White, Tigers

July 22 -- An injured right shoulder has limited White to DH duties and essentially taken him out of the potential trade market. Though the shoulder doesn't affect him, it's worsened an already weak outfield arm. Though the veteran right-handed slugger could be part of a waiver deal after the deadline, he'll have to be healthy first.
RHP Jason Johnson, Tigers
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- The Tigers would like to package Johnson to another team before free agency, but his inconsistent performance since late June has taken the shine off of what had been a potential breakout season for him. More likely than not, he'll finish out his season in Detroit.
2B Placido Polanco, Tigers
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- A partially torn left hamstring tendon has become a much greater problem than expected for Polanco, who suffered the injury just before the All-Star break. His health presents a major obstacle to any potentially interested club, especially since a complete tear would knock him out for at least three weeks. Polanco's genuine interest in re-signing with Detroit could also quash trade discussion.
LHP J.C. Romero, Twins
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- Romero is attractive to clubs because he's a lefty setup man who can throw in the low-to-mid 90s. But he hasn't had a dominant season since his breakout 2002 campaign. His solid 2005 numbers are a little deceiving. He is prone to allowing walks and letting inherited runners score against him, which has frustrated the Twins.
1B Casey Kotchman, Angels
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 22 -- If the Angels move a high-level prospect, Kotchman remains a likely candidate. He is a pure first baseman and Darin Erstad is signed through 2006. He has good offensive skills and is a solid defender, but Kotchman has not helped his stock by hitting below .300 throughout the Triple-A season.
3B Mike Lowell, Marlins
Contract status: Signed through '07
July 20 -- According to MLB.com beat reporter Gary Washburn, the trade that would send pitcher A.J. Burnett from the Marlins to the Orioles hinges on whether the Orioles are willing to take Lowell. But Washburn said a Pirates source has shot down that notion because the Bucs aren't interested in Lowell. The Orioles have to come up with a way to acquire Burnett without having to take on Lowell, which, Washburn writes, is the Marlins' condition of any deal involving Burnett.

July 20 -- A free agent after the season, Encarnacion is a solid corner outfielder with some power and speed. He is expendable because Jeff Conine can fill in on a regular basis in right field. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch suggested the Cardinals acquire Encarnacion to help offset the loss of outfielder Reggie Sanders, who has a broken leg.
LHP Mark Redman, Pirates
Contract status: Signed through '06
July 20 -- Published reports said Redman could return to the Marlins, for whom he pitched in 2003, in a three-way deal that would send A.J. Burnett to the Orioles and Mike Lowell to the Pirates. But the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that the Pirates were never seriously involved in discussions that would have shipped out Darryle Ward to Balitmore and Redman to Florida.

July 20 -- According to the Toronto Sun, the Rangers have been told by the Blue Jays that Vernon Wells was not available, so Texas has turned its attention to Catalanotto.
RHP Shawn Chacon, Rockies

July 20 -- The Denver Post reports that trade talk regarding Chacon has died down because the Yankees, Rangers and Giants view Chacon as a secondary option at best. San Francisco covets starter Jason Jennings, but the Rockies do not plan to trade him, and the Giants have minimal interest in Chacon.

July 19 -- USA Today reported last week that the Cubs might be interested in Huff to fill a gap in the outfield. Chicago, however, acquired Jody Gerut from the Indians.
RHP Kip Wells, Pirates
Contract status: Signed through '05, arbitration eligible for '06
July 18 -- The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Phillies may still have some interest in acquiring Wells, who is set to receive a big raise from the $3.175 million he is earning this season when he heads into arbitration for the final time this winter. But the Tribune-Review suggested Wells will remain in Pittsburgh after the pitcher lasted only 2 2/3 innings Sunday before an audience of scouts, losing for the sixth time in his past seven starts.
1B Jim Thome, Phillies
Contract status: Signed through '08
July 15 -- With Ryan Howard producing at the big league level, Thome might be expendable. USA TODAY Sports Weekly reported that two National League clubs said the Phillies are shopping Thome, who has struggled during an injury-plagued third season of his six-year contract.
C Mike Piazza, Mets
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 14 -- Piazza is on the block to be dealt to the Rangers, for whom he could DH more frequently, according to USA Today. But the New York Daily News reported that a Mets insider said the club has no plans to trade Piazza or left-hander Tom Glavine.
RHP Jason Schmidt, Giants
Contract status: Signed through '05; with club option for '06
July 14 -- The Baltimore Sun reported that the Orioles have interest in the right-handed Schmidt. An earlier report said the Giants are asking for two Major League-ready starters and a top-level prospect in return for Schmidt. However, San Francisco has indicated reluctance to trade their ace.
2B/OF Tony Womack
Contract status: Signed through 2007
July 22 -- Despite the short-lived Melky Cabrera experiment, Womack is still unlikely to see much playing time in center field, as Bernie Williams and Bubba Crosby will get most of the starts. Womack could be used as a second baseman or backup infielder for an NL team.
2B Orlando Hudson, Blue Jays
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 6 -- The Toronto Sun reported that the Red Sox, Reds and Devil Rays all are interested in Hudson. He is Toronto's best trade chip, mostly because of his glovework and the fact that he hasn't even hit arbitration yet. The second baseman will start to get expensive this offseason, but he's starting to get recognized as the AL's premier defender at his position. The Jays have Russ Adams and Aaron Hill in the fold, so Hudson is likely on borrowed time.
OF Matt Lawton, Pirates
Contract status: Signed through '05
July 5 -- The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Pirates are trying to trade outfielder Matt Lawton before the July 31 deadline, and several teams apparently have expressed interest. Lawton told the Post-Gazette he is aware of the talks, and that he fully expects to be dealt.
OF Mike Cameron, Mets
Contract status: Signed through '06
June 30 -- Cameron was rumored by papers, including the New York Daily News, to be a part of a potential deal with the Yankees for Gary Sheffield. The Yankees were quick to squelch the rumor, but Cameron remains an interesting trade target thanks to a quick start and his Gold Glove defense.
OF Wily Mo Pena, Reds
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- Pena has a propensity to strike out, and he's prone to defensive foibles in the outfield. But his power bat -- especially against left-handers -- could make him a superstar someday. The Reds might be afraid to trade Pena for just that reason.
LHP Kazuhisa Ishii, Mets
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- General managers have the same regard for left-handed pitchers that mothers have for Jell-O: "There's always room for Jell-O." But Ishii has been a major disappointment to the Mets, left-handed or not. If the Mets drop out of the race -- and even if they don't -- he could be moved. After all, Steve Trachsel will be back. Ishii isn't Randy Wolf, but he's just as left-handed and his elbow is functional.
INF/DH Shea Hillenbrand, Blue Jays
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- Hillenbrand was a key pickup for the Blue Jays this season and won't be acquired lightly. The corner infielder and DH has made an impression as a blue-collar competitor in Toronto. The Jays think Hillenbrand's intense attitude has a ripple effect on the rest of their clubhouse, but the presence of 3B Corey Koskie and 1B Eric Hinske could make him expendable.
INF Eric Hinske, Blue Jays
Contract status: Signed through '07
June 27 -- The Jays would love to move the former Rookie of the Year. The erstwhile third baseman moved across the diamond this year, but he could slide back to the hot corner if a prospective trading partner has a hole there. The Jays inked Hinske to a lucrative extension in 2003, but he's yet to return to the hot-hitting form of his first full season.
RHP Justin Speier, Blue Jays
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- The Jays could trade any veteran member of their bullpen, but Speier may be attractive to other teams because he has experience pitching late in the game. Toronto wants to load the relief staff with young and low-priced impact arms, a project that has already brought relievers like Vinnie Chulk and Jason Frasor to the big-league roster.
RHP Ricky Bottalico, Brewers
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- His $800,000 salary makes him the highest-paid player in the Brewers' surprisingly solid bullpen, but that could be the right price for a contender looking for a veteran arm. Bottalico does not have the sharp fastball he once possessed, but his 116 career saves show that he knows how to get the job done. He's the Brewer most likely to be dealt.
3B Edgardo Alfonzo, Giants
Contract status: Signed through '06
June 27 -- High-salaried ($6.5 million in '05, $7 million in '06) Alfonzo hasn't lived up to his reputation as a great offensive player. And he's struggled with his range before losing weight.
2B Ray Durham, Giants
Contract status: Signed through '05; player option in '06
June 27 -- Expensive player, oft-injured. Salary is $6.5 million this season, $7 million next year. Great leadoff man, but his leg problems have curtailed speed.
RHP Shigetoshi Hasegawa, Mariners
Contract status: Signed through '05, club option for '06
June 27 -- The Mariners would be doing him a favor by trading him to a contender, and he could give any bullpen a boost because of his versatility. He would fit in nicely with the Padres.
OF Juan Pierre, Marlins
Contract status: Signed through '05, arbitration eligible in '06
June 27 -- One of the league's top leadoff hitters since joining the Marlins before the 2003 season, Pierre has struggled to get on base, which has hurt the team's run and stolen base production. Because he's had three seasons with 200 or more hits, and is a career .300 hitter, the speedy center fielder has value. Once considered an unlikely trade possibility, Pierre in the past has attracted interest from the Phillies and Yankees. Unless he signs a multiyear deal, Pierre will be a free agent after '06.
SS Rich Aurilia, Reds
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- Aurilia lost his starting shortstop job to Felipe Lopez, and he's been frustrated with his utility role. Playing on a one-year deal, Aurilia could add a veteran presence to a contender. He's also been swinging the bat well of late.
1B Sean Casey, Reds
Contract status: Signed through '06
June 27 -- A clubhouse leader and community presence, letting go of Casey would be tough. But he's one of the Reds' more valuable commodities, and the team could probably land some strong prospects for him. The sticking point would be the $8.5 million he'll make in '06.
RHP David Weathers, Reds
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- At 35, Weathers isn't exactly a guy to build a bullpen around, and with this being the lone year on his Reds contract, he could be a solid addition to a playoff-caliber team in need of relief. Weathers has looked strong out of the 'pen for the majority of '05.

June 27 -- Mohr was injured early, and struggled mightily when he returned. Which came first, the slump or the lack of playing time? With rookie OF Brad Hawpe earning playing time, Mohr could be had.
INF Desi Relaford, Rockies
Contract status: Signed through '05 with a mutual option for '06
June 27 -- Relaford lost playing time early because of the emergence of SS Clint Barmes, but he has had regular playing time since Barmes' potentially season-ending collarbone injury. With a catalog of at-bats under his belt, Relaford could be attractive to a team that needs a utility player capable of starting in stretches.
OF/1B Matt Stairs, Royals

June 27 -- Any contender needing a veteran left-handed bat who can play outfield or first base might take a look at Stairs. He's 37 and still can produce, but he's not an everyday player.
RHP Kyle Lohse, Twins
Contract status: Signed through '05
June 27 -- Although he has slipped from prospect to suspect in 2004-05, Lohse still has great stuff and plenty of upside for a team needing a fourth or fifth starter. With a strong rotation already and several starting prospects in Class Triple-A Rochester, including Scott Baker, ready to move up, the Twins can absorb this loss.
RHP Joe Mays, Twins
Contract status: Signed through '05, club option for '06
June 27 -- Because of his $7.25 million '05 salary and history of elbow problems, it's doubtful there would be takers. But Mays has shown himself to be healthy, and the club can afford to part with a starter.
3B Joe Crede, White Sox
Contract status: Arbitration eligible in '06
June 27 -- The third baseman is among the best in baseball defensively, but Crede has come up short of expectations offensively over the past couple of years. He has good power potential, but the White Sox might be looking for an upgrade in overall production. Crede was thought to be part of an offer made to Oakland for Eric Chavez, although the A's denied the trade as a possibility.

June 27 -- As a switch-hitter with power and the ability to play the outfield, Everett could be a hot commodity for another team in contention that's is willing to deal for equal value.
