The Radical Ideas for Nats 2013
« Topic Start: October 22, 2012, 01:22:26 PM »
So, yes, I am a radical fan. So what? I like to live life on the edge. :D

Here is my projected lineup, rotation, and bullpen for OD 2013 if I were the Nationals manager/front office.

1. Jayson Werth RF
2. Bryce Harper CF
3. Anthony Rendon 3B
4. Ryan Zimmerman 1B
5. Ian Desmond SS
6. Nick Swisher LF
7. Steve Lombardozzi 2B
8. Kurt Suzuki C
9. Stephen Strasburg P

Bench:
Chad Tracy
Danny Espinosa
Roger Bernadina
Jhonatan Solano

Rotation:
1. Stephen Strasburg
2. Gio Gonzalez
3. Jordan Zimmermann (Bullpen??? Hehe.)
4. Kyle Lohse
5. Ross Detwiler

Bullpen
Drew Storen CL
Tyler Clippard SU
Sean Burnett MR
Ryan Mattheus MR
Craig Stammen MR
Jonathan Broxton MR
Christian Garcia LR

Not sure if Swish can play LF, and not sure if Broxton would move to MR, or if Lohse would come to Washington, but I think if the money is right he would.

Feel free to comment!

A rookie with no AAA and little AA experience, Rendon, batting 3rd... not gonna happen.

I'll stick with Rizzo. Might I suggest OOTP? ;)

- Rendon needs a year in the minors to learn professional, high-level, pitching. We'll see him, a little, in September.
- I see Swisher all the time -- I live in NYC now -- and he would not have made the 2012 lineup. He would have started in 2011 or 2010, but the current outfielders are better and younger. The grumbling from the Yankees suggests that Swisher will be dropped, but Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore are better.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Garcia become the 5th starter next year.

You did say this was the radical ideas thread, didn't you?

He will be the backup to Suzuki until he can beat him out. Knee injuries for catchers not good.

Flores will be shipped out as soon as Ramos proves he's back.

I expect we see more of Suzuki then your average back-up catcher next year, but I'd be shocked if Ramos isn't the starter.

I agree. Once he's healthy Ramos is the starter.

I'm guessing this is true. That's a tough, tough injury for a catcher to come back from. I expect Suzuki to be in the #1 spot at the beginning of the season.

Let's hope Ramos can make it back all the way, and isn't relegated by inury to backup catcher and bench bat.

I agree. Once he's healthy Ramos is the starter.

Then I hope he doesn't get healthy anytime soon.  A return to mediocre defense at catcher is a big step backwards.

Maybe Zuke can give him some tips on how to field a throw to the plate. ;)

I'm guessing Suzuki and Ramos will essentially split time next year if Ramos is back to 100%.  Remember, Ramos is still fairly young, only 25.  He'll keep getting better.

Radical?

1.  Ellsbury         CF
2.  J Upton          LF
3.  Zimmerman   3B
4.  LaRoche         1B
5.  Desmond        SS
6.  Harper            RF
7.  Werth             DH
8.  Suzuki/Ramos C
9.  Espinosa         2B

SP - Stras, Gio, JZimm, Grienke, Detwiler
RP - Storen, Garcia, Burnett, Stammen, Mattheus, Jeremy Affeldt

Bench - Lombo, Bernadina, Tracy, Moore

So radical I added the DH rule to the NL.  Heck, if Espinosa slumps and either JZimm or Stras is pitching, bat them in the 9 hole and DH for Espinosa!

Ramos wasn't hitting that well when he went down. Not that Suzuki is a slugger either. Our catching situation is not as good as people think it is.

Nats Catchers in 2012

Ramos - .265/.354/.398/.752
Suzuki - .267/.321/.404/.725
Flores - .213/.248/.329/.577

Not sure why people constantly either misremember, or intentionally mislead others about how Ramos was hitting in 2012.

Hell, the final 15 games of his 2012 season, Ramos was hitting .304/.407/.435/.832... so the claim he wasn't hitting well at the end of his season is also incorrect.

I'm not trying to pick on you Count... I've also seen other posters say the same things about Ramos... and it simply isn't true.

We're only playing  24 on our roster for OD?

I bring back Bowden before I would let you in the ballpark.

Guess we're only allowed one Strasburg on the 25 man, huh?

Maybe Strasburg, and this guy Welch is always talking about, Strassburg, would be a formidable twosome.

A radical suggestion would be trading Rendon and Lombardozzi to the Twins for Mauer and Span

1. Denard Span CF
2. Jayson Werth RF
3. Joe Mauer 1B
4. Ryan Zimmerman 3B
5. Bryce Harper LF
6. Ian Desmond SS
7. Danny Espinosa 2B
8. Kurt Suzuki/Ramos C
9. Stephen Strasburg P

All of a sudden that lineup looks more balanced, amirite?
