If we trade Morse for Capps/Luetge, the Mariners fans at FanGraphs will majorly lose their crap.

In today's chat somebody asked Jeff Sullivan if the M's should trade Capps for Morse, and he said, quote, "no!!"

Bowden reporting that 10 to 11 teams have inquired on Morse while the Yankees, Rays, and Mariners have been the most active.

How can Morse command all that attention and LaRoche so little?  I'm guessing most of these inquiries are just due diligence that no we won't trade Morse for a 26 year old AA reliever.

LaRoche costs a draft pick. Also, the Nats could be planting these rumors. It's all coming from Bowden and Billiam Ladson.

but he'll hit 101 on the radar gun (granted nowhere near the plate)

To be fair, half of the Mariners roster is comprised of slow sluggers that pretend to play corner positions

I guess Seattle's lineup would look something like this with Morse:

1B: Montero
2B: Ackley
SS: Ryan/Triunfel/Andino/Franklin
3B: Seager
C: Jaso/Montero
LF: Morse
CF: Gutierrez
RF: Saunders
DH: Morales

That's decent.

Glad LaRoche is staying .  Will hate to see Morse go. Would like to see him stick around until May to see if we have any injuries and  he is needed, or other needs that come up.   ""Take Me on"

Rizzo will still look to add a LH reliever if fit is right, but "it's not something we feel we have to do." #Nats' RHPs can get lefties out

huh........

Because they actually named teams I would suspect there is at least a grain of truth.  If they just said "10 teams are interested" without naming them I would be suspicious.

Morse for Price and Wil Myers.

i still want a lefty reliever so they would have to throw in Jake McGee too.  To top it off they should toss in Fernando Rodney.

In that case, Bernie probably stays, Moore goes back to AAA.

I was thinking that Moore would go back to AAA regardless, if I recall correctly Rizzo (or someone) wants him to get more ABs and he'd get as many as he wants in AAA.

Cameron on Morse's Comps:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/some-comps-for-mike-morse/

Quote
His career UZR/150 in the OF is -15, which is pretty close to the line at which you see teams decide that the lack of range is too much of a problem to continue the experiment. He’s also been a negative baserunner for most of his career, and last year, only David Ortiz, Jesus Montero, Prince Fielder, and Billy Butler were worse at advancing around the bases. Morse is a guy who fits best as a 1B/DH, and if he doesn’t hit, he’s not particularly useful.

Quote
In a lot of ways, he’s similar to Kendrys Morales, who the Angels traded last month. Too aggressive at the plate, not a defensive asset, lousy on the bases, but with enough thump to make him a useful role player. Morales was traded straight up for Jason Vargas, an average-ish starting pitcher headed for a $7 to $8 million payday in arbitration. Morales can’t even pretend to play the outfield, but he’s also a switch hitter, a little younger, and is due a lower salary in 2013. Morales and Morse should have similar levels of trade value, and not surprisingly, the same teams that were rumored to be interested in Morales are now rumored to be interested in Morse.

There’s not enough value here for the Nationals to command a huge return, and they’re reportedly shopping Morse for the best reliever they can get, with preference for a lefty. Given his deficiencies and contract status, that sounds about right. Combining his total skills, Morse is probably a +2 win player making a salary just slightly below what a +2 win player is worth in 2013. He’s worth trading for, but not giving up a huge return. For a team who wants an offensive upgrade without a long term commitment, though, swapping a reliever for Mike Morse makes a decent amount of sense.

This is probably the "best" report you will ever get of Cameron on Morse.  I still don't listen to his comparisons on Morse, no matter how logical.

Yeah I like Dave Cameron but he's always seemed to have it out for Morse. Probably because he's a Mariners fan.

The organization that he is a fan of has a tendency to pay good money to bad talent.  They sure do know pitching though.  They should send some of that pitching the Nats way.

Rizzo floats the idea of keeping Morse as a 4th OF.  But then what happens to Bernie?

http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130108&content_id=40890708&vkey=news_was&c_id=was&tcid=tw_article_40890708

Morse is a starter. somewhere. 1B, DH, whatever.

He's not a 4th OFer. too much Offense for that.

trade him for as much as you can possibly get.

preferably to the American League. so we don't have to face him on a regular basis.
