You kiddies are quickly forgetting what LaRoche means to this team. Thank God, Davey still remembers.

Edwin.

That's a funny way of spelling Drew.

If we are just talking about the 9th then it is Suzuki's fault for his horrible frame jobs on Storen's sliders.  Storen kept throwing perfect sliders at the knees but Kurt would catch the ball and drop his glove to the dirt.  No ump is going to call a pitch a strike when a catcher receives a ball like that.

It was Storen's fault.

End of story.

it will be interesting to see how storen responds to this.  Various closers have had nights like that over the years, and some of them completely tank afterwards, some are just fine, i hope storen is the latter and he seems mentally tough, but we'll see.

How is it all Storen's fault?

He seems mentally tough.  He's a smart kid and knows that one horrendous outing shouldn't and won't ruin his career.

Closers get too much credit for closing out games and too much blame for losing games.

Storen.

Moving on.

LINTY HAS SPOKEN, everyone else can shut up.

The team let it slip away for innings and we all saw it coming. Almost every player on a roster was playing scared, we missed multiple chances to put it away and multiple chances to shut the door. You can hang it on one player if you want, but that was a total team loss if I've ever seen one.

Werth OPS+

2007 - 120
2008 - 122
2009 - 129
2010 - 144
2011 - 97
2012 - 125

Except for 2010 and 2011, he's been between 20% and 29% better than league average.  He's still squarely in that range.  Not only not washed up when he signed, he's still not showing too many signs of being washed up.  Defense slipped last year but we'll see if that was blip or the start of a trend.

Keep both.

LaRoche shows no signs of slowing down. Consistent hitter, great fielder. Reminds me of Tino M. An attacking 1B, like Tino, Mattingly, Hernandez.

Morse? Why trade off a guy who can hit 30 homers a year and is also a good fielding 1B?

Depth is good. Consider the injuries the Nats had last year...every position except starting pitcher and 1B.

If we let Morse go this franchise will regret it for a long, long time.  Give up a guy who is capable of AT LEAST .290, 25 homers, and only makes 6 million something?

Why is everyone so eager to part with this guy?  I love LaRoche, but I feel Morse is going to return to 2011 form this year and for the next 2-3 years if he stays healthy.  We lose a lot in our lineup with him gone.

It would suck to see Take On Me go but you can't choose some singalong moment over a player's ability.

Morse is 2 years younger than LaRoche, his only full season was better than LaRoche's best, and his defense is at least average at first.  Once you take into account that offense>defense at first then I say collect the comp pick and go with Morse.

I love Morse but my one concern is his health.  You can't ignore that.  I would be fine with either one but I think Morse is a bigger risk..

At first I was all LaRoche over Morse but now after weighing everything contract/ability/comp draft pick. I would rather have Morse also having him on a one year deal instead of 2 for LaRoche wouldn't block any of the young guys Moore/Rendon/Skole.

CF Span
RF Werth
3B Zimmerman
LF Harper
1B Morse
SS Desmond
2B Espinosa
C Ramos

A little right hand heavy but not bad all. Keep the beast!!
