As I said in a thread earlier, the only thing that makes sense is an under the table deal that Edwin would take a 1-year deal with the Nats last season only if the Nats didn't impede his free agency hunt in the 2012 offseason (i.e. the Nats agreed to not tender him and discourage other teams with draft pick compensation).

What absolutely does NOT make sense is that Rizzo, who is proving himself to be one of the best GMs in MLB, was not smart enough to understand that not only was Edwin Jackson going to get a deal that was better than 1/$13.3 million, but that he was going to blow that out of the water.

He was ALWAYS going to get at least 3/$36. Every sane person knew that.

That said, I have no problem with Rizzo honoring his under-the-deal agreement. He probably has the same agreement in place with Dan Haren, and if that helps us get veteran pitchers at a good value and with minimal investment, I'm all for it.
