I know STH at other teams who get to participate in a special event each season where the team opens the stadium and field for the STH account head and 1 guest. The teams typically hold a 4 hour long batting and fielding session that give the STH a few swings in the cage, and as much time as they want shagging fly balls and fielding grounders.

I know some do it only for full STH, others for half and full, and some others even include partial plans.

I've written the Nationals once each season asking to institute this policy, but I think they need far more people to make the suggestion to actually do it.

As a baseball player from my youthful days, and as one who has feelings of grandiosity in spite of my own obvious limitations (like strength, speed, talent, ability), this is something that appeals to me quite a bit. Is this something that you'd be interested in?

More so, if you don't have ST, is this something that might make you think about picking up a package?

I'd pay some bucks to the Nats charity to take some BP and shag flies at Nats Park....

I'd pay some bucks to see old, fat guys pull their hammies and whiff on fly balls.

Seriously, if you can do it and not make a fool out of yourself, then go for it. Otherwise, don't pull a Mark Lerner and hurt yourself.

I play in a men's 30+ baseball league, so, if I don't get hurt in my regular games, I should be able to handle it on a real field - however - I'm also smart enough to know that I don't want to be standing around third base when major leaguers are hitting...

In Lerner's case, I'd bet that he got distracted and didn't have the reactions to get out of the way at the last second.....

I used to play in an 18+ league (MABL/MSBL). Even when I got to the age where I could play in the 30+, I liked the 18+ better, you 30+ guys are too hardcore ;-)

I've had the opportunity to run around a MLB field and shag fly balls a handful of times, and it is honestly one of the standout experiences looking back. I'd love it if the Nats would do it.

Lerner, well, he needs to place a little more "heads up" I'd say.
